Not that I claim to have much experience in these things, but sounds to me like Pou was trying to keep secrets from you, and if there is anything that will ultimately wreck that kind of relationship, it's secrets.
On a completely different swing, she already knows that you know she was going with a different guy, so that would help explain why you are going with someone else.

Unfortunately, no matter what you do, the fact that they are cousins will undoubtedly be trouble for quite some time.
