Warcraft III Farm bug
Reply
Posted 2002-10-04, 08:36 AM
As all of you who play Warcraft III online know, earlier in the week, Dishonru discovered a new bug: If you build a farm in a tight corner (ie: so that when the farm finishes your peon is trapped and can't move), if you cancel the farm early, you'll wind up with 80 gold and 20 wood more then what you started with. The implications of this are tremendous: Using this "bug" you can actually "mine" gold at approximatly the same speed as 4 expansions!

Blizzard is now aware of the problem, and they promise to put out a patch soon, but as we all know, all that means is that we can expect it before, say, Starcraft: Ghost comes out.

My own personal take on this situation: It really doesn't bother me. I've played maybe 20 ladder games since the bug was discovered, and I have yet to encounter someone doing it in a game.

Oh, he is. We changed his name.
Graviton, I have had some complains about your "pointless" messages lately, so at least when it comes to things outside the Chat Forum, try to stay on topic.

hehe, nice picture lol.

I was aware that I would lose money and lumber if I cancel something... its not only for farms, its also for all the other buildings... I've tried out myself, cuz I was curious if it really did take away money... and maybe thats why I've been having trouble in some games with money and wood...

Abusing this bug is not cheating. Unless abusing huntresses, ghouls with dual auras, shamans and witch doctors, and every other "cheese" that will be patched are also cheating.

no, theres a difference.........this farm thing is a BUG, the other things you mention are either imbalances or you dont know how to beat them yet.....take your pick

Um I'm lvl 11 on US-EAST solo ladder. I think that qualifies me as a decent player? The other imbalances are indeed bugs AND THATS WHY THEY ARE BEING NERFED IN THE NEXT PATCH. Sheesh im surrounded by newbies. =]

Incidently, The Curse of Monkey Island was possibly the funniest/best game to ever exist, so nice sig.

Inbalance doesnt mean bug it means inbalanced, the farm thing is a bug, and if you exploit it to get level 11 on the ladder well then Id be curious if you really are good or just on of the noobs who sorounds you...

yes, indeed.......there is a difference between a BUG....and an IMBALANCE

a BUG is totally unintentional...an error

an IMBALANCE is something that was INTENDED to be there, but perhaps not in the exact form it turned out to be

blizzard never intended people to be able to get gobs of money by deleting farms

they DID intend to let people make hunts, and ghouls, and all that (and lots of them, if they desired)

incidentally, there are ways to stop mass hunts.....mass ghouls....shamens+witch doctors......just dont let your opponent make them! they are "massed" it does take a few minutes

level doesnt mean much until you get to a pretty high one.....just about anyone could get to 14 or so, on easy (er, east) or west, or europe or asia

ps.
especially as humans (which you seem to use as torahman and endersgamer (both level 8)) you should have little problem with an orc, if you do it right
