Pi is now a rational number!
Posted 2009-04-16, 04:25 PM I have no idea if this website is just bullshitting or if they figured out how to successfully masturbate to rational and irrational numbers, but they supposedly prove that Pi is a rational number. Now, I am not highly educated in mathematics, and to tell you the truth I didn't even bother reading through the entire page, so I'm looking for someone to call their bluff or verify it! *cough* Chruser *cough* WW *Cough* http://webonastick.com/pi/ Proceed...

Posted 2009-07-20, 10:01 PM in reply to -Spector-'s post "Pi is now a rational number!" It's pure BS. Their "proofs" rely on breaking the laws of mathematics. A rational number is one that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers. For instance, 1.25 is rational since it is 5/4. 1.3267 is a rational number as it is 13267/10000. 1.99999 (nines repeating) is a rational number as it is 18/9 or 2/1 or simply 2. Irrational numbers are those which can not be expressed as a ratio of two integers. Sqrt(2), pi, e, are all irrational. Pi can be calculated analytically as an infinite sum. When we calculate pi for millions of digits it is being done analytically, not by getting increasingly precise measurements of the circumference and the diameter of a circle.
