Suggest RSS news feeds for the portal
Reply

Update: I somehow managed to write a hack to allow you to choose the RSS feed(s) you want via the list on the bottom of the Edit Options section of the User CP. In other words, just select whichever feed you want, and it will be displayed on the your portal.

For server security and resource conservation purposes (caching a new RSS feed is a very resource intense process), you should suggest which feeds you want to be on the list. If you ask nicely, I may even be able to give you a completely custom, personal feed, e.g. something like "Low_Blow's 30 latest YouTube videos".

If you have absolutely no clue what RSS is, the Wikipedia entry on RSS may prove a helpful read.

You can see examples of active RSS feeds on Yahoo.

Again, start suggesting feeds!

Personally, I suggest the following two feeds:

CNN Top News: http://rss.cnn.com/rss/edition.rss

Slashdot's main feed: http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot (Technology news)

To restate what I said in the Zelaron Portal thread:

As of now, I have not been able to make it possible for users to select RSS feeds of their own choice, so until I find a way to accomplish this (which is currently my main priority), we should vote for what the RSS Feed module should display.

BBC is pretty good, as they show news not just from the US.

Other than that, CNN

Update: As stated in the Zelaron Portal thread, you can now select your own RSS feed source from the bottom of the Edit Options section of the User CP. Basically, just select whichever feed you want, and it will be displayed on the portal.

I have added three RSS feeds for testing purposes, BBC News, CNN Top Stories and Slashdot. To see feeds of your own choice on the list, suggest them here!

As I also said:

I will purchase the full version of CaRP in a few moments, so we can create the exact RSS formatting we want.

Also, I talked to WKFF last month about allowing things like replacing the useless "Zelaron Portal" text below the header menu with things like a RSS stock ticker that will marquee the latest results from the right to left in a Wall Street ticker fashion, which will very much be possible now!
