PS3 News
Reply

Well, after some kind of conference or other today, Sony have released a load of PS3 news.

The most exciting, yet disappointing piece of news is a release date. A Worldwide release date. Of November 2006.

http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/311.html

---

Now, all this news is taken from www.ps3portal.com In a n attempt to keep the number of threads down, and the size, I'm going to give a brief descriptiong, and a link.

---
The PS3 will be launced WORLDWIDE in November 2006
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/311.html

The PS3 will be released WITH a 60gb HDD that runs Linux
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/312.html

The PS3 will be equipped with HDMI 1.3 ports (bring on the 120fps!)
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/313.html

The BASIC PS3 Online feature will be free
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/315.html

What we all knew: PS3 is 100% compatible with PS1 and PS2 games.
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/316.html

PS3 delayed due to Bluy-Ray Copyright Protection - great thing is, by the time of release, there will be over 6million consoles!
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/317.html

All PS3 games will be on Blu-Ray discs
http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/321.html

---

And that's it.

Some of these stories are amazing! The sad thing is that the PS3 won't be released until November...but the good thing? They will have, at launch, nearly 4 times the consoles M$ had. Over 6million consoles!!

Anyway, Discuss!

You seem to act as if you have some personal stake in the success of Sony. This is not a gang war, you have no cause to call Microsoft "M$" and rag on the Xbox. If your unchecked fanaticism continues I will kick your ass. In case you were wondering, I do not own or plan to own a console.

So, does this mean stores are now letting people pre-order consoles?

I don't know whether Sony said it, but a couple of shops are now letting you pre-order, yes.

I've even got an article for you.

Preorder PWN. I'm preordering at least one. I doubt they'll sell on eBay like the Xbox did, since there'll be a good bit more at launch, but, depending on how big the demand looks, I may give it a shot.

I'd hazard a guess at them selling even better. By November, the PS3 will be so hyped up that even Grav will think about getting a console.

And if they don't sell as well, at least you've got one.

I really believe it's a struggling little ship. If people have that much money to waste on some shit like that then they really need to give it to me <3. I'll waste it on better shit.

A couple more pieces of news.

First off, the Worldwide Release really does mean WORLDWIDE. Sony have added territories such as most of Asia (not just Japan), and Australia to the list of places they release it as standard.

Also, the PS3 will be REGION FREE!

http://www.ps3hacks.net/modules.php?...rder=0&thold=0

We can finally import games we want when they come out earlier in other countries, and hot have to worry about chipping the console.

At least they'll know then that the bugs are right across the spread, not just because some idiot dropped it in some water and swore at it in French.

It'll be years before the price drops. I'm pretty sure Sony are designing this to be a 10 year console, not just a five year console.

Talking about 10 year, the other day, Sony announced the end of their PS1 production. They need the space for PS3 production.

I'd imagine so.

I can't remember if I've already said this, or if it was in one of the articles, but [as we all know] the Blu-Ray discs are 50gb - which means there's more than enough space for your average game...in numerous languages. So yes, you'll probably get subtitles, and you're likely to get the game in English, on the same disc.

They are doing the region free thing as a measure to counter piracy. The #1 reason people "modded" their consoles was to play imported games, and it had the side effect of being able to play burned games. They hope to avoid that.

I personally don't see what's wrong with modding your console to play an import say, if it came out half a year earlier in another country, or was native to only one territory.

I don't think Sony does either. The problem with it is that people used the mod to play burned games as well (or instead, as the case usually was).

And it seems they're trying to tackle that. Even if it does mean they've got to release 6 or 7 months after the original release date.
