For $49.99, PC gamers will get the game and the Rise of the Zilart expansion pack on five CD-ROMs. The price also covers 30 free days of access to Square's PlayOnline network, once gamers create their character. After that period ends, players will have to pay $12.95 a month to remain in the FFXI world, which will also be inhabited by PlayStation 2 players when that version of the game is released early next year.

Final Fantasy XI is scheduled to release later this month.

For some reason i have a bad feeling about this.

Hmm, doesn't seem too bad, price-wise. Although, just like Kuja said, I also have some suspicions about online games in association with Square.

Well considering the popularity of the Final Fantasy series... We should have hundreds upon hundreds of geeks working on emulators on the first day of release

Ahhhh Donnie Darko Bunny!!!

Anyways, It's a monthly fee. As in monthly. 30 days.

Twenty-eight days... six hours... forty-two minutes... twelve seconds. That, is when the world will end.

You all ARE aware of the downfalls for the game? Well, heres some info on it. First, when you buy the game, and register, the registeration is literally LONG. I mean, omg, you'd think your about to enter the White House computers or something. Anyway, then, comes the patches. Anyone play Dungeon Siege? Those patches take a while, but its Nothing compared to FFXI ones, your gonna sit there for quite some time unless you have a really fast computer (this is not 56k friendly! But I hear the game is to some 56Kers). Now about the gameplay, some people say the graphics kick ass, others say it can be better. Some say its somewhere between FF9 and FF10 (I go by this one). Game is confusing for newbies (really confusing). Also, when you die, you lose 20% of your gained exps and there IS de-leveling. (You lose enough exps, you will drop a level, although I hear you still keep your stat points if you spent it). Leveling is also a long process. With these two combined, people are assuming Square is doing this to rack in money. Also, 1 character only, additional characters cost about a dollar extra. (Although I dont see why, you can change class anytime! Guess its too much of a problem to people?). People also having a hard time with keyboard, so some suggest a gamepad to make your life easier. Quests I hear are long. Now, you also cannot join the same game as your friend when you first start. When you first enter the game, your Randomly selected one world (out of many) and placed into it, your friend may be sent to another. You CAN play together, but now you must pay 1,500 gil I believe for a World Pass. (Which your not going to really get THAT quickly at newbie stage). All in all, This game is NOT meant for someone who only plays on Weekends, you must have alot of spare time on your hands to make the best of your month. As for me, I might get it, but Im thinking of getting my own non-routed cable line and wreck some more havoc on PlanetSide =D. Well, thats all the downfalls Im aware of, probably more or they probably fixed these problems but... ::shrug:: Oh yeah, majority of the people your playing with are from Japan. =)

Edit: Yeah sorry, just noticed that this thread was for pricing only. But I guess I did mention they WILL charge you more for every new character you make. But I guess its mainly to make you all aware of things before you buy it. Not trying to stop you from buying it, by all means do, I'll see you there in one of the worlds =), but just making sure you know all this. Btw, all this info is what I've reseached, I may be incorrect in some areas, but I think its true.
