Pope: Church must do penance for abuse

Regardless of "repenting" these people need to be criminally charged. I think this is a step in the right direction, in that the Pope is at least acknowledging that a problem exists, but claiming that it can simply be fixed by "repenting" and not owning up to his full share of the blame is wrong.

I agree, if there has been actual crimes committed, then obviously there should be persecution as there would be for any other person(s).

I don't know whether the Pope himself has molested children, but he has knowingly allowed it to happen which is just as bad in my eyes.

You know the more people go to these news sites and click on these links, the more hits they get, the more the news site thinks that people give a shit about the catholic church. This in turn results in more reporting, and subsequently more attention given to the catholic church. I know it's tempting, but next time just don't click the link man. It's always the same story and has been for years - and really it's just common fucking sense - if you don't want your child molested don't send them to catholic school just like you wouldn't let them spend the night at Michael Jackson's house.

I don't see how this is a bad thing. When the "attention" is negative, as it is, I think the more exposure there is the better. The only way it can change is if people know about it and are outraged enough to change it.
