I'm back. The tour went pretty well. We ended up having to cancel a few shows though. All in all, we sold about 60 copies of the CD, did six shows and made a lot of fans.
The first show we played was Jackson, and that one went pretty well. We played with two other bands; a metalcore band named Hostility and another band named Something Must Die. Sold 25 copies of the CD and pics from the show should be up soon.
The second show was in Rexburg, Idaho. We played under the awning of a tire store because the venue shit on us at the last minute. The show actually turned out pretty well, about 30 to 40 people in the audience. Plus, it was outside, so we weren't totally exhausted by the end of it.
The next night we didn't do a show, but we stayed in Sun Valley, Idaho. We stayed at this kid Cole's house (the guitarist for a band called Postmortem) and generally had a pretty good time. The only bummer was that it was the 4th of July, and I almost got my eyes burnt out of my skull by a massive bottle rocket that ended up missing my head by mere inches. It just came out of nowhere, and I managed to dodge it, but Jeff got hit. Burned a through his jacket and singed his arm pretty good. Other than that, it was a fun night.
The third show was terrible, however. We played in an alleyway in front of the loading dock to some small warehouse. We played with a hardcore band called the Esoteric (great performance) and some unfathomably shitty death metal band. The thing that sucked so badly was that I had gone out of my way to be hospitable to the guys in the death metal band. I talked to the drummer for an hour or two before the show started, I went out of my way to help their vocalist/rythm guitarist jury-rig a mic stand because he forgot to bring his and I let them use my brand new PA as well. On top of that, myself and the rest of my band were standing right up front through their entire fucking set, applauding after every song and even singing along during one of them. I shook all of their hands after they finished, continued to bullshit with them for awhile and just acted generally pleasant towards them the entire time. So, what happens as soon as we start our set? They take off. They head over to an adjacent parking lot and start skateboarding. The only member of their band that had enough respect to watch us was the drummer. So, that put me in a pretty sour mood for the rest of the night.
After that, we headed back to Sun Valley to play the show with the Postmortem guys and it kicked ass. We had an actual venue this time, and there were probably 50 kids there. Sold between 10 and 20 copies od the CD and made a lot of friends.
Next up was Salt Lake. As we were driving between Sun Valley and SLC, though, our bassist Daniel (he handles the show arrangements) got contacted by the venue and was told that the show for that night was off. I honestly can't remember why, but it was cancelled, no two ways about it. So, we just ended up throwing a show in our guitarist Dan's garage. Played for 15 to 20 people, sold about ten copies of the CD, had a good time.
After that, we found out that our second show in SLC was cancelled and we scrambled to find a place to play that night. Daniel got in touch with the guys from Something Must Die and we found out that they were playing a show that night and had an opening for one more band. So, we hopped onboard and played a four-song set in a venue in Salt Lake. Sold one copy of the CD, which was pretty weak, but otherwise it was a cool show.
We were supposed to do two shows in Twin Falls, Idaho, but both of them fell through. We were also supposed to do a show in Elko, Nevada, but the other band we were supposed to play with pooned out on us, and we didn't feel like driving all the way there if we were the only ones playing.
So, six shows, maybe 60 copies of the CD sold. We hung out at Dan's house for a few days in Salt Lake and then came back a day early. Not a bad tour for our first time. Good to be back, though.
