Well, I have never played the game and like I said it just stuck out in my mind (hard to forget a commercial with a beloved childhood character flying around on a waterpack). I thought since the commercial showed basically nothing EXCEPT him on that pack, that it was a bigger part of the gameplay. A bit like taking a sample if you will.
I have played Gamecube a few times before and didn't care for it much but if you'd like to try to convince me to give it a second try, I'll keep an open mind. Hell, you may even turn a few other members into Gamecube fans while you're at it.

Well, if you're looking for more mature-themed games, there are a number of them to begin with:

Eternal Darkness - I have written an extensive review on this game in the Review Forum. it's located at the top of the Interests section on the main index.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - I have written a review on this one as well.

Beyond Good & Evil - I have written a review of this game as well.

Metroid Prime - Best game on the console. Dark, action-packed and violent. No groutesque amount of gore, but there's plenty of death to be had.

F-Zero GX - I included it here because there's no way in hell a child could beat this game. It's one of the most challenging games I've ever played, and it's addictive in ways you cannot comprehend.

The entire Resident Evil series including the following exclusives:
Resident Evil: REmake
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil 4 (coming this winter) - If you haven't played REmake or Zero, you're out of your mind. RE4 is going to be the game of the year, I can almost guarantee it. It's the only game to have ousted Halo 2 from the top spot at Gamestats and it's technologically one of the most terrifyingly impressive games ever created. Go to IGN and check out their media section on the game. Your jaw will hit the floor.

Soul Calibur 2 - Granted it's a multi-platform title, but it's the best version of the three. Why? Because Link is in it, and Link is the man.

Metal Arms: Glitch In The System - Another multi-platform game, but a kickass shooter, nonetheless. Tons of robot carnage and foul language.

If you're looking for something different, the Gamecube has a wide variety of other highly entertaining titles as well.

Mario Kart
Mario Golf
Mario Party - All of these games are insanely fun. Granted, they are accessible to pretty much anyone, but that doesn't make them kid's games. I'd like to see a child beat Mirror Mode All Cup Tour in Mario Kart.

Star Fox Adventures - Fantastic game. Unbelievable graphics engine, awesome level design and gameplay elements, and it's fun from start to finish. Not necessarily a mature game, but it's not kid's fare either.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy - I've recently written an extensive review of this game as well. I've seen and played a bit of the XBox version, and I've seen video of the PS2 version and I can safely say that the GCN version is the best of the three. I actually looks better on the Gamecube in my opinion, and the controller just feels a lot more natural with the game than the XBox controller.

Skies of Arcadia: Legends - One of the best RPGs I've ever played, hands down. The Legends version is Gamecube exclusive, while the original was a Dreamcast title.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - Everybody has played this game, everybody loves this game. There's not much more to say.

Viewtiful Joe - I've written an extensive review of this one as well. monstrously challenging and tremendously entertaining.

And that's about half of the games I own for the console. This year, Gamecube will be getting RE4, Metroid Prime 2, Star Fox 2, Paper Mario 2, Tales of Symphonia, and a number of badass third-party titles like Second Sight and Geist. There's a ton of reasons to own a Gamecube, and a ton of reasons why it's my favorite console.

Yeah... that was a son of a bitch for me to beat. Would constantly get bad luck, such as being hit by stuff repeatedly when I'm in first, only to put me into last. But I had also hit luck, such as being in 5th and taking the first 4 people out 5 feet behind the finish line with a blue shell. Fun stuff.
So this baby seal walks into a club.

Looks that way, doesn't it?
I'd take him winning a discussion over some x-box fanboy going "OMG BUT EXB0XOR HAS BETTER GR4PHIC5 5O I7 0WNZ U" which is the typical argument you'll get from what I've seen.

By the way Raz, I'll be looking into those games and giving the cube another try.

I'd definitely recommend it. It's the cheapest of the three consoles, it's the smallest (so it takes up less spsace) it's the sturdiest of the three (in my experience), it's the second most-powerful of the three and it's got a fantastic game selection. I'm not knocking my PS2. I own one, and play it regularly. I'm just a huge fan of that Gamecube, and I think everybody should own one.
