It's a fact, though. I'm not hurting anybody by smoking pot; I'm not even hurting myself. I still act/feel the same way I did before I started smoking. I still get straight A's, it doesn't make me more stupid like alcohol. It's not addicting like crack/heroine. I fail to see how it's harmful.
Actually when you attend school, the school basically becomes your parents. If we are talking about High School. They can search you, your locker, backpack, and or car if they want to. You basically have no rights while you are at school. There are several supreme court cases that have sided with the school.
However, if I were you Thanatos, just say you were around people that were smoking or you ate popeyseeds. These can also make you fail a drug test. Also do you know if they were testing for pot?
Drug tests check for 5 main drugs. I'm not to sure on the other 4 but one of them is pot. It doesn't even really check for thc, it checks for the metabolites thc breaks down into.
I believe poppy seeds contain opioids, not canabinoids. Tests these days wont confuse the two.
In regards to the "my friends were smoking and i was around them" defence, that doesn't really work. There is a certain amount of thc/thc byproduct that must be in your system to test positive, and since he was "tokin up like crazy", it's safe to say that he is way past that point.
(I think... this is what i remember... i read all this shit while i was stoned/smoking, so I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly)

The exact reason I dropped out of highschool.
