Doom III Software Requirements (with screenshots)
Reply

From what I've read about this game, it simply sounds amazing. This is a must have for any serious PC gamer. The original Doom was probably the best old-school FPS, and Doom III looks like it might take the spot for best FPS ever.. But enough of me speculating how Doom III will be.

If you're wondering whether your PC will be able to handle Doom III, you should check out the Official Doom III [H]ardware Guide. That article should tell you everything your PC requires to run Doom III. Now for a brief summary:

The minimal requirements are listed below:

DX 9.0 compatible 3D card w/ 64MB RAM*
MS Windows 2000/XP
Pentium 4 1.5 GHz or Athlon XP 1500+
384 MB RAM
8x CD-ROM
2.2 GB of HD space
Broadband (for multiplayer)

*Supported 3D Graphics chipsets:
ATI: Radeon 8500, 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
NVIDIA: GeForce 3, GeForce 4MX, GeForce 4 Titanium, GeForce FX, GeForce 6

Seems to me that hardware requirements just keep increasing. Hell, I'll have to buy another new computer soon, it seems.

Now, for the hardcore enthusiasts, the hardware guide has also outlined the "Ultimate Enthusiast Doom III system." They reccomend an ABIT KV8Pro motherboard, an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 754 processor, 1GB of Corsair XMS DDR3200XL, and the BFGTech 6800 OC which should be out sometime in mid-August.

Now for some screenshots:

Get the game!! It looks awesome.

You might be able to get tolerable framerate on the lowest settings. Shame on you for thinking you can game on a laptop.

My main gaming machine is my Area51m. After spending all that money on it, I can't afford to upgrade my desktop . No, really, my laptop is okay for gaming. Probably next year, I'll buy one of these gaming systems that the more mainstream makers are starting to make; a garage laptop builder would have better support than Alienware.

OMG multiplayer?! I cannot wait to own this game.

Twenty-eight days... six hours... forty-two minutes... twelve seconds. That, is when the world will end.

No.
But I will tell everyone how it runs on a low grade 64 mb vid card... as soon as my sister comes home with the car.

I can't believe I only have 256 mb of ram, and a geforce 2 mx-400 (32 mb). Well, it ran far cry, so what the hell.
