Oh, well that's easy. I used to work for the local ISP, Onewest.net. I did tech support, regardless of the fact that they never bothered to officially train me. That's the worst kind of job you could ever possibly have. I mean tech support anywhere is bad, but in Wyoming? I'm not kidding, I would get at least two calls every single day in which the customer would say, and I quote, "My internet is broken." You don't know misery until you've had to explain the physics of double-clicking to an elderly hispanic woman who's bad with english. I've done it, and it took me nearly two fucking hours.

I worked as an ATR (Advanced Technical Representative) for DISH Network for over 1.7 years. I'd sit for 8 hours, talking to irate customers about their TV not working, and trying to coerce them into following my instructions to try to fix it.

Being in ATR, I got calls transferred to me that the regular, dipshit techs didn't know what to do with, or they just didn't want to deal with it. We were dumped all kinds of calls that we weren't even supposed to receive. We got billing, Supervisor calls, account activations, anything you can think of that isn't technical. We were so good at our jobs (and everyone else's), that as a 'Thank You', they disbanded our department when they were releasing 6+ new products that year that none of the regular representatives had any CLUE how to troubleshoot, so calls began to run VERY long and they put us on 'Mandatory Overtime' for a month or two.

What finally pissed me off enough to quit, is that they released a brand new receiver model (The DishPro 921) without telling us, and only mentioning a few technical aspects about it. So, we had customers calling in on it, and we didn't even know it was released. This thing wasn't a simple receiver either. It was a dual-tuner, DVR with High Definition capabilities being packed out with a new type of Dish that we couldn't even troubleshoot per orders from the Executive Office...

After that, and their refusal to take us off the phone long enough to give us some training as to what the fuck things were, I gave 2 weeks notice and left the company.

Edit: Raz, I spent 55 minutes on the phone with an old man trying to get him to press 3 buttons in sequence on his remote.

I've also spent 1.5 hours on the phone arguing with a customer as to why *I* can't move the satellite into alignment with their Dish.

I've also spent a good deal of time telling customers that they're responsible for paying the $300 of porn movies that their child ordered.

Heh, I got a pretty amusing porn-related call one time. Kid goes crazy on his parents' account, downloading all kinds of shit to the family comp and then hides it all in a password-protected folder. His parents find out, and want to get rid of the shit, so they call us, thinking that we're responsible and owe them access to this kids' password! I got bitched at for over an hour for something that wasn't even related to their service!

I got a call from a lady who argued with me for half an hour trying to get me to fix her DVD player.

I got another one who wanted me to troubleshoot their microwave. -_-

Abby got a call from a guy who cared enough to inform us that our remotes, "Don't hold their liquor".

A friend of mine got a call from a blind man who had static on his TV screen (he could hear it).

God, what else...

I did get a call from Maury Povich, however. That was interesting (the account was under Connie Chung though).

Heh, I got calls from a guy who was using Windows 3.0 and wanted me to troubleshoot.

I got a call from a kid who had gone into his registry and just randomly started deleting stuff and wanted me to fix it.

Got a call from a gentleman who was having trouble logging into his account. I went through the entire STP as per normal and told him to give his email a shot and call me back if he had any problems. He called back, and I spent an additional two hours trying to figure our why his settings were all screwed up. After two hours, he finally bothered to tell me that he was using a Mac, after I had spent the entire time troubleshooting for a PC. I had asked him at the beginning if he was using a PC. His original response was "yeah." I questioned him about this again at the end and he said, "yeah, I told you, a Mac PC."

I had to deal with numerous calls in which a customer had not paid their bill and was still unsure as to why their account wasn't working.

At one point, I had a man call me and complain about a banner featured on his Hotmail account. He proceeded to bitch at me, saying he didn't like the ad and he wanted me to remove it. I told him that Hotmail was in no way, shape or form affiliated with Onewest.net and that there was no way in hell I could remove the banner for him. So, his response was to cancel his account with us. It was a fucking Visa ad.

My personal favorite, however, was a recurring female customer who would only call when plastered drunk. She would sit on her computer while her five year old son talked to me on the phone and relayed my instructions to her. I spent five hours on the phone with her once. FIVE HOURS. That was almost my entire shift.

Tech support is horrible. Nobody should ever have to deal with it.

At least it was amusing.

Say good-bye. I hate my job. I dont like it, and I just quit at 6:55, and I was due in at 7. Boy, were they pissed. I dont give a shit because I work my balls off, and I'm tired of people jerking off. W00t, tell me about your jobs.
I would of given two weeks notice, so that at least you could get a good recomendation for your next job...

Anyway, my job is easy as pie. I run the five gallon line at a Sherwin-Williams paint factory. So basically I just fill paint orders 5 gallons at a time, but there are two filling heads so 10 gallons in a set. I get to sit down, kick my feet up, for about 5 1/2 hours in a working shift, then I have lunch and break. =) It rules. 50G a year, enough to put myself through college, I want to start taking electrical engineering soon.

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...
