"Blue Laser" and "Blu Ray" - Next generation of cd readers.
NEC and toshiba showed a prototype to a new kind of optical cd reader to PC.
The reader is called "Blue Laser" and is based on a new technique calld AOD ( Advcanced Optical Disk ), that means tomorrows new disc allows you to store the whole 20GB. The new disc is competing with Sony's "Blue Ray": Throw away your DVD - Blu Ray is here! Well not really but almost. The next geneations cd media is still under work. Blu Ray is developed by nine companies including Pioneer and Philips. A normal DVD can usually store 4.7GB or 133min. While a Blue Ray can store a outstanding 27GB(!) or 13 hours of media. Actually a normal DVD can store almost 15GB ( double sided with double layers ) but the problem is that todays cd burners cant handle that. Anyway it will take a few years before those format is in your PC or below your TV. Those new formats will surely be the new defacto too. Read more about it: Blu Ray |
I knew about blue laser technology 3 years ago. A japanese man, working by himself, invented and made it work before the companies did. I guess the companies are finally catching up. The reason they store more data, is because the light frequency is vastly shorter then a red light laser. I'd imagine th e lowest we could go is purple. It will mean something alone the lines of a x30 data boost, possibly x60 or more with more advanced lasers and storing systems based off of the technology.
This is old news man. ^^ |
I didn't know that :-/

If this makes DVD's obsolete, im gonna be pissed.

ehh...it'll prolly be at least 5 years before these things go commercial and prolly at least 10 if they ever do go big...it takes time 4 ppl 2 catch on and these things aren't even fully developed yet...i wont be pissed if these things replace dvd's 10 yrs from now
