I disagree with smoking as it causes problems for others, it is a horrible waste of money and that it is an addiction that is marketed to the vulnerable. Personally, I will never smoke (anything) because it would ruin my sports and I can't think of a good reason to do something that will shorten my life.

1: A family member smokes, and the only way to not get sick from the smell all the time, is to take it up yourself.

2: Trying to be cool, to fit in (nobody forces a smoke, you take it on yourself)

3: It relaxes the person.

4: Any number of given reasons.

I don't and will never smoke because for one thing, I can't afford spending that much on ciggs nor would I want to have the bad breath or teeth that come with it. I will only live once and I wouldn't want to take that away from myself. The idea is idiotic, in the first place, Why would you inhale poisonous fumes? The true stupidity of the human mind shows whenever someone lights one up.

Believe it or not, I actually like the smell of smoke. I'll smoke every once in a while, though it's generally hookah. I do it for sociability. If every one around me is smoking, I'll go along. Plus, hookah tastes great, imo.

I like the weirdest smells, so, I in suit like the smell of smoke. I just know some of my friends smoke so that the smell of their parents doesn't make them want to puke. But hey, I think when I smell a skunk on the road I actaully like it. Same with gasoline. But that doesn't mean I'd subject myself to smoking or running over skunks or covering my parent's car with a flammable liquid. I just think it's stupidity that drives the urge to smoke.

Basically that is the average mentality of a human being. Lots of things that we do are usually unnecessary, but we do them anyways.

Bread doesn't taste good anymore - add more sugar to it so it tastes more like cake
Talking on AIM or some message board
Strawberries taste bland - douse them in chocolate or whipped cream
Heck, even listening to music really serves no purpose
Adding carbonation and sugar/whatever other sweetener to water
Buying a 1,000 dollar video game system
Buying HDTVs over CRTs

And the list could go on and on.

So, then, whenever that person still ain't happy.. I guess he/she starts taking drugs or smokes or whatever even if that person knows in the end it will probably harm them (assuming it isn't already harming the person).

i smoke out of habit now, i started when i was 14 or so. I think it had to do with my dad being a big smoker too. Now i smoke between half a pack and a pack a day. Usually a cig will calm my nerves, but Im guessing my nerves were rattled because I hadnt had a cig for a awhile... sooo. It is hard to quit too, ive tried many of times. Now I just do care. I excercise everyday and I am a pretty good runner and I can pass all the Armys physical fitness test easily enough.

But ya smoking sucks I wish I wouldve never started, and it will probally take a scare for me to quit permanently. :(

The key difference between you and MOST people is they smoke and sit on their ass so it stacks up against them. True you probably can not run as much as you should be able to without smoking but at least you are doing physical activity. You are still better off than most chain smokers I would think.

I used to smoke cigarettes heavily last winter, but I was up to almost a pack a day on a weekend day and about a half pack on weekdays. After awhile I started rolling my own cigarrettes, and then got away from that idea and had a pipe now and again. I might have a cig every few days or so, mainly because it is nice to have one after smoking some marijuana. Tomorrow is going to start a hazy weekend. I'm getting hooked up cheap with a 1/2 oz. of marijuana, a two 1.75s of tequila, and a pack of marb reds. I don't intend to consume all of that in the next 3 days, but I just like looking forward to getting some 'party materials' for the next couple of weeks.

I started smoking weed and cigarettes early on in High School, like 75% of my class. Years later, I still regularly use both of them and enjoy it. I like smoke in my lungs. It's become a natural feeling to me, and it soothes me. I don't give a fuck if smoking is bad for you or will shorten my lifespan. Do I choose to avoid Boston or New York City because I'm afraid some angry kid and his friends are going to jump me when I leave a bar at night? Hell no.

Eventually I'm gonna bite the dust, hopefully later rather than sooner. But whenever it happens, I'll be happy that I fucking enjoyed myself every day, and always tried to have a good time.
