Liberal Muslim

I met this Muslim girl at school and I didn't know she was Muslim. She said her family were not like traditional Muslims but they were outcasts in most Muslims' eyes. I asked her why and she said it was because she was a Liberal Muslim.

I have never heard of a liberal muslim, have any of you?
