I got home from work last night and my dad handed me my birthday present. I open it up and there was a fucking dagger (I think...it's rather long...) inside.

What kind of asshole would get you some boring impractical gift like a dagger? It will sit around and do nothing forever. You don't live in the jungle and you're not a pirate, so I can't think of any time that you will ever need a dagger. LAME.
