USA is called America because it's shorter. Lots and lots of other countries have shorter names that they are commonly referred to as rather than their legal names.
Therefore, its inhabitants are referred to as Americans. If going by the popular meaning of the word, no. Canadians are not Americans. However, if you're looking at it from a difinitive point of view, you could say that anyone born in or legally immigrated to North or South America is an American. |

If two Japanese people move to the US and have children, why are they American and not Asian? Well, their ethnicity is clearly asian, but they should be referred to as an Americans due to their childhood, and the morals they learn from their friends and school in the US. I believe that where you get most of your overall education (not just school) defines your nationality.
