I tried Sushi for the first time not so long ago. It's an acquired taste I guess. My friend tricked me into eating a bunch of wasabi...bitch.

It's usually 'not bad' at first, then once it isn't so weird, it really grows on you.

I love Sushi personally, and Sashimi is fantastic as well (essentially just a strip of fish, no rice).

The Wasabi thing is kind of a 'first-time hazing', I think everyone's been suckered into that one, lol.

Not a fan. I remember trying it a while ago. Perhaps I'll give it another shot.

Yeah, not everyone will like it, just from my experience anyone who goes "it's okay" from the first experience tends to like it after a while.

Kind of like beer (not Budwater/etc), it grows on you.

I honestly can't see myself ever liking beer.

I like sushi, but I got suckered into eating a bunch of wasabi as well for my first time. Dicks.

I said that myself, and I ended up liking dark beers and ales. /shrug

After my first few keggers I liked beer.

Likewise, especially the Nadie keggers.

I like certain types of sushi, especially alligator rolls (salmon and eel i believe). Other then that and a few others, i think its gross, but im not judging.

Shitty keg beer is a waste of time (says the old guy). Once you get the legal opportunity and the funds, check out a large variety of beer. It doesn't all taste like watered down piss. Guiness and New Castle are my two current favorites. Hoegaarden and Blue Moon are nice if I'm looking for something lighter.

Of course, if you're just looking to get proper fucked, then stick with the keggers. We usually did Beast Ice. Ugh...

Oh, and wasabi is awesome. Blue Diamond has these wasabi coated almonds. They're the tits.

Heiniken is my favorite right now. Had a Newcastle the other day with my dad, and it was great. We usually had kegs filled with MGD or Gainbelt Premium (may be local, not sure).

I'm at the point where I'm not a big fan of beer, but I don't hate it.

Oh I love Sushi, but I live in a small town where we don't get good Sushi. My boyfriend has introduced me to good sushi though in California! I love the cream cheese ones :)

Likewise, especially the Nadie keggers.

Are you talking about Natty Ice (Natural Ice)? That shit isn't beer, man!

Anybody tried the new Miller Chill? Holy hell, it's the best beer I've tasted. It has a hint of lime and goes down smooth. Three of those and I'm definitely buzzed.

That's not Sushi, anything that comes in a roll isn't real Japanese Sushi. ;)

Also, Vault Dweller, if you're into real beer (as you or Thanatos seem to be the only ones talking about something other than yellow water here), there's a good amber ale by New Belgium called Red Trolley Ale, it's pretty good. Fat Tire is another good beer, and if I remember correctly, had a fairly hefty alcohol content for a beer.

I'll have to check out Newcastle though, I was always curious. Guinness is only good on draft though, I can't drink it out of the bottle, it's too sweet that way. I think the extra stout Guinness was good from the bottle though...

I had a couple of Guiness earlier this summer, and two was about all I could take. It was like drinking a sack full of barley, although it was decent. Schell's Firebrick and Snowstorm are some nice heavier beers that were brewed in my old town. I did not like Fat Tire, though. But Laughing Lab was pretty good. At least I think that is what it was called.

They should have pot wasabi, so you could get a little fucked up off a few pieces of sushi.

Nope thats a bitch drink. I was talking about Natural Light. I think its one of the best keg beer for some reason.

Right now, i love the miller chill. It has a hint of salsa which makes it really interesting.

Well, those rolls are kind of tasty, but it's not real sushi. Real sushi is a chunk of fish and rice. I had Unagi once (tiny eels), but they made me sick. I should know better than to get that here in MN.

Read the whole thing:

In Japanese cuisine, sushi (寿司, 鮨, 鮓, sushi?) is a food made of vinegared rice combined with fish (uncooked and in some cases cooked).

Sushi is an English word that has come to refer to a complete dish with rice and toppings; this is the sense used in this article. The original term Japanese: 寿司 sushi (-zushi in some compounds such as makizushi), written in kanji, means snack and refers to the rice, but not fish or other toppings.
There are various types of sushi: sushi served rolled inside nori (dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or alga) called makizushi (巻き) or rolls; sushi made with toppings laid with hand-formed clumps of rice called nigirizushi (にぎり); toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu called inarizushi; and toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice called chirashi-zushi (ちらし).

cold boiled rice moistened with rice vinegar, usually shaped into bite-size pieces and topped with raw seafood (nigiri-zushi) or formed into a long seaweed-wrapped roll, often around strips of vegetable or raw fish, and sliced into bite-size pieces (maki-zushi).

You've never had a Philidelphia roll? It has cream cheese, rice, a veggie, and most of the time salmon.

How is it not sushi???

California rolls/etc were never made until the Japanese brought sushi to America, they're not authentic sushi, I thought that was common knowledge.

That's confirmed by a few native Japanese friends and my Japanese professor as well.

On the bright side, I had sushi for lunch today. Abby's Dad is out from VA and he took us to lunch at Todai (Japanese Seafood Buffet type place). All you can eat sushi is a good thing. :D

Oh lucky you and the all you can eat. I usually end up paying through the nose when I go. So damn expensive. What kinds did you have?

I can't remember it all. They had tons of the "psuedo-sushi" rolls, which were all good and tons of the real stuff. I know I had Salmon, Tuna, Mackerel, Squid, Eel, two different types of Clam, Tilapia, and a few others I don't remember. Sadly, they had no Octopus this time.

Best place ever for a lunch imo, $15 for an all you can eat seafood buffet which includes all that sushi. It's not TERRIFIC, but certainly passable. Price goes up to $25 for dinner, but they roll out Lobster and Crab for that. :D

Oh I see. When I was at VA Beach I went to a $20 buffet with all you can eat crab, lobster, and sushi. Needless to say it was delicious and I just about ate my weight in seafood. Closest place to get cheap sushi is at this china buffet, but I'm kind of afraid to try it. Yah never know how fresh it is.

China Buffet is probably just imitation crab in all the sushi-type foods.

I wouldn't be surprised. I noticed a tiny cooler filled with them last time I went, but didn't try them because I had eaten 4 plates already.
