How important is monitor refresh rate to online gaming? And should I just set it to the max??

60 hurts my eyes... I can't imagine staring at something under say, 70, for a long period of time.

Well if your in a game that measures frame rates and that determines performance in the game would refresh being higher affect that at all or is that all on the vid card end??

Heh.. my lcd apparently has 60, doesn't bother me at all ^_^

LCDs refresh rates cannot be adjusted, even when set at 60 they refresh realistically around 40 Hz. But since the entire screen is updated at least it doesn't really bother the eye.

Doof, I'll do you this solid.. (dumb it up for the old man?)

Yea, It could be the difference between me or you in an online fps game..

My eyes have been so painful and bloodshot for the last week since I raised my resolution, but it's stuck at 60hz so I went back and set it to 70, hopefully I won't pop blood vessels in my eyes to the point where I can't see anymore

How does 1280x960 @85hz sound?

Grav

Bad, it's not a proportionate resolution. 1152 x 864 or 1280 x 1024 are safe bets.

I think it looks great on this 21" flat crt.

I don't know, maybe it's different for you than this 17" bubbled piece of shit I have..

Funny thing is, if your penis were that big, you'd be even more miserable...

I mean, really...after about 10 inches, the glamour of having a long penis declines, and it becomes more of a burden. Well, at least if it's long, maybe you can suck yourself, but that's about it.

Way to get off topic lol. My choices are 60, 70, or 80. Guess Ill do 80 and see what happens.

I just found out my monitor supports 85hz :S... all this time it was stuck on 60hz but it didnt really bother me, although the sore eyes thing purerebel mentioned sounds familiar. I'll just see if the 25hz will make a big difference.

edit: it definatly makes a difference while playing games, hooray!

If you adjust your the video orientation using the settings on the monitor itself then whenever you change the refresh rate of the monitor the video as it is situated on your screen will also change. This is another reason, in addition to the eyesore of computing at 60hz, to try to keep your refresh rate stable with all of your windows applications up to, and for most of us more importantly, your games. This can be accomplished with some new games (such as farcry) through in game settings. However, older games (such as Diablo 2) do not have such settings available for normal gamers to tweak and adjust. I use a third party application called “refresh lock” to keep my refresh rate high with whatever game I am playing. Try it out, it is freeware and I wouldn’t even consider gaming without it anymore. It really helps to keep my screen at 85hz during those marathon sessions of CoH (in the past) or WoW (I can’t remember if there were adjustable refresh rate settings or not).

Odd. I bumped up my Refresh rate, and my screen feels fuzzier, like it's less clear...

Yeah, that means your monitor sucks. Sorry.

Bumped it to 85 Hertz.

My monitor likely does suck too.
