!King_Amazon! enjoys going on roller-coasters, while simultaneously doing the can-can. He also loves to go on long walks in da 'hood under the moonlight. His favorite color is Lucius Red with a dab of Violet Shine. If !King_Amazon! could be any two actors, he would be Jean-Claude Carrot Top.

Halo Wars |

So, I bought Halo Wars the other day (Special Edition) so I figured I'd review it.
STORY: As the campaign mode starts, you are a lone character, Sgt. Forge, and you must gather the scattered Marines and make haste back to Alpha Base. As you make it back to Alpha Base, you discover that it has been over run with an alien race (Which, at this point, we apparently know are covenant), and you have to take it back. After accomplishing that goal, you have to then stop the bomb the Covenant have planted in the nearby ruins that you were there to initally investigate. Then, the Arbiter (not the same one from Halo 2/3 mind you. This one looks way more bad ass.) abducts Dr. Anders to try to get her to activate the Shield World, on orders given by the Propet of Regret. You may remember he epic fails when he encounters Master Chief in Halo 2. So, the Arbiter and Sgt. Forge... [Read More]

Chrono Cross |

*Originally posted on 1up.com, Monday, Feb. 25, 2008.*
I finished Chrono Cross today. Before anything else, I should say that I haven't touched New Game + yet, so I'm probably missing out on some of the plot points, but I feel like I've got the general idea.
To be blunt, I was disappointed. The ending sequence was...unsatisfying to say the least. I was hoping for a more solid plot explanation, a nice FMV, and perhaps a specific Chrono Trigger cameo. Instead, I was left with what amounted to digital blue-balls.
I'll admit, had unreasonably high expectations for Cross from the beginning, having absolutely loved its predecessor. I understood this, but I didn't expect to be disappointed on so many levels.
Beginning with the plot, I was constantly looking for Trigger tie-ins, but these really don't appear until about half-way... [Read More]

TITLE: God of War
GENRE: Action/Adventure
PUBLISHER: Sony Computer Entertainment America
ESRB RATING:M for Blood and Gore Intense Violence Nudity Sexual Themes Strong Language
STORY:
You are the Hero Kratos. As the game starts, you are about to jump off a cliff because the gods have made you their little puppet. As Kratos jumps, he starts to remember how he got to this point. The actual gameplay starts 3 weeks before hand, which shows you on a boat, when it is attacked by undead soldiers. You fight off the soldiers, and make your way through the ship, fighting off more undead soldiers and archers. After you make your way to the next ship, you fight the Hydra, and then you do a few more things, then you beat the level. The rest of the game is pretty much the same, where you run around killing Greek... [Read More]

The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time |

Links enters the 3rd-dimension. A revolution ensues.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: Nintendo 64 (GCN Collection version reviewed)
Genre: Action-adventure
I'm sure that the majority of the people faithfully reading this review series of mine have been most-eagerly anticipating this one. Considered by many to be the greatest game in the series, if not the greatest game ever made, Ocarina of Time sports a fan-following that spans the entire world. It was Link's first foray into the realm of 3D gaming, and it set a new bar for all 3D adventure games to follow. Even today, we see games like Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Beyond Good & Evil and even Nintendo and Rare's own Star Fox Adventures mirroring the design philosophies of this fantastic game.

Seriously, Link needs to roast that friggin' owl alive.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: Gameboy (GB Color "DX" version reviewed)
Genre: Action-adventure
Truth be told, I only started to really like Gameboy games after I grabbed my Gameboy Advance. I've owned one of every model of Gameboy ever made, but I only purchased a handful of games for each, and I beat few of them. There were a lot of titles that I ignored or missed out on because of this, and while I certainly don't hold any regret for many of them, Link's Awakening is one of the few original Gameboy games I wish I'd bothered to give a chance as a kid.
Story
Shortly after defeating Agahnim and restoring Hyrule to peace in A Link to the... [Read More]

The greatest horror game ever made.
Resident Evil 4
Developer: Capcom Production Studio 4
Platform: Gamecube
Genre: Survival-horror
I was first introduced to Resident Evil in 1997 by a friend of mine in junior highschool. I did not own a Playstation, and I had never even heard of the franchise until being shown Resident Evil 2 one weekend at his house. However, after watching him play through nearly the entire "reverse game" in one sitting, I found myself intrigued and wanting to play it myself. However, seeing as how I was but a poor 15-year-old, I could not afford a new console and therefore had to wait to see if it would possibly be ported to another medium.
I was in luck, however, as only a couple years later, Capcom ported RE2 to the Nintendo 64. I snatched up my copy as... [Read More]

The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past |

It's not the original, but it is the quintessential example of what a Zelda game is, was and always will be.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: Super NES, Gameboy Advance (GBA version reviewed)
Genre: Action-adventure
This is the game that made me fall in love with the Zelda series. Sure, I had enjoyed the original as a kid, and Zelda II certainly has some nostalgic fondness attached to it. However, it wasn't until I was basically peer-pressured into playing the third game in the series, A Link to the Past, that I came to see how engrossing, epic and brilliant the franchise truly was. Link's third adventure hooked me, and if you never gave it the opportunity before, do so now, because I guarantee the same will happen to you.

Zelda II - The Adventure of Link |

I don't think the term "red-headed stepchild" has ever applied to a videogame more appropriately than this one.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System (GCN Collection version reviewed)
Genre: Action-adventure
Nintendo has never been much of a company for adhering to the adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Constantly striving to improve, enhance and upgrade the gameplay experience of their properties, Nintendo has always adopted a system of trial, error and recombination. With the original Legend of Zelda, Nintendo had struck creative and structural gold, creating what amounted to a near-perfect title for its time. For the sequel, the big N was not content to simply serve up a refried mishmash of the same old formula. Instead, they decided... [Read More]

Let's take a look at where it all began.
The Legend of Zelda
Developer: Nintendo
Console: Nintendo Entertainment System (GCN Collection version reviewed)
Genre: Action-adventure
My memories of childhood are hazy. I can clearly remember my life from the age of 11 until now, however everything before that gets blurrier and blurrier the further I try to go back. Part of the reason why videogames are such a huge part of my life is the fact that they represent the best memory-markers from my childhood that I can recall. I can barely remember the course of my days at the age of six, but I can clearly remember sitting on my my bedroom floor, playing the original Legend of Zelda with my older brother for hours.
As a child, I never beat the game. Hell, I couldn't defeat the first boss, let alone the entire... [Read More]

TITLE: Chakan The Forever Man
GENRE: Platformer
SYSTEM: Sega Genesis
PUBLISHER/DEVELOPER: Sega
This game is for those who hate long drawn out cinematics. This game has practically no cinematics AT ALL! The only thing you could possibly count as cinematics are when you enter a level and it gives a brief description of the bad guy and how he remembers when he had a soul.
STORY:
There is almost no story behind the character, or what happens after you beat the game, so this section will be short. You do find out that he has given up his soul for immortality and now regrets it, so he spends his time keeping demons and evil creatures in the "after life" realm. Upon entering each level he describes the boss bad guy person and then recalls how he would have felt hunting this creature... [Read More]

"Do a barrel roll!"
Star Fox Assault
Developer: Namco
Platform: Gamecube
Genre: Shooter
When the original Star Fox debuted over a decade ago on the SNES, I had no interest in the title, to be quite honest. To this day, I cannot stand Super FX Chip graphics. Granted, the FX Chip was among the first of resources to allow 3D graphics on a home console, but it doesn't change the fact that the original Star Fox was a mess of polygons and headache-inducing effects. All of my friends loved the game, and I honestly couldn't understand why.
Several years later, Star Fox 64 taught me why. Armed with a substantially more solid graphical presentation than it's predecessor, I found that the on-rails space shooter franchise actually boasted extremely intuitive and well-crafted gameplay. I... [Read More]

Name: Tekken 5
Genre: Fighting
System: Playstation 2
Rated: Teen for Language, Sexual Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco, Violence
Tekken 5 is an interesting mix of a storyline. The real story is behind Jin Kazama trying to contain the Devil gene from taking over while Kazuya is trying to find the traitors who attacked the Honmaru Dojo. Meanwhile, an evil presence of a Mishima figure controls the King of Iron Fist 5 Tournament. This character is Jinpachi.
The graphics are the same as Tekken 4, though a little bit better, but not by much. The stages remind me of how Tekken 1 had been. The music is pretty damned good.
Characters that return are Jin Kazama, King, Nina Williams, Christie, Marduk, Julia Chang, Kazuya, Hwoarang, Marhsall Law, Paul Phoenix, and Lee Chaolan. Some of the newer... [Read More]

Pronounced Bah-ten Kye-tose.
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
Developer: Namco/Monolith Software
Platform: Gamecube
Genre: Role-Playing
The name "Monolith Soft" might sound familiar to you. These guys have recently been tearing up the console RPG market with their widely recognized Xenosaga series. Before partnering with Namco, however, the team that would eventually become Monolith was a part of the Japanese RPG giant, Squaresoft. The core members of Monolith were respsonsible for both Chrono games, as well as the phenomenal Xenogears, which I reviewed several months back.
However, things were not destined to remain this way. For various reasons, Monolith chose to break away from their RPG parent in order to sell their wares to alternate companies. Namco saw the raw,... [Read More]
