!King_Amazon! enjoys going on roller-coasters, while simultaneously doing the can-can. He also loves to go on long walks in da 'hood under the moonlight. His favorite color is Lucius Red with a dab of Violet Shine. If !King_Amazon! could be any two actors, he would be Jean-Claude Carrot Top.

Precious (This was going to be longer, but my brain died)
Mar 06, 2010 - 11:03 PM - by KagomJack
Once in a while a certain movie comes along and all you can think when you watch it is "Whoa." This is certainly one of those movies. What's so special about "Precious"? At first glance, it seems to be your typical drama about a girl whose life is fucked up in so many ways. And, in a sense, it is. But what seems to set it apart in my eyes is how realistic it is. The characters, the dialogue, and the situations she is put into seem real.

I really don't want to say too much about the movie, as most people already know the plot, but I will say that it is powerful and it will make you examine things around you a little more. It does a fairly decent job painting your average welfare recipient (not that all welfare recipients are like the ones in here, but many are) and the mentality of people who are put through some of the abuse that Precious... Across the Universe
Jun 10, 2009 - 12:35 PM - by !King_Amazon!
I'm gonna put a few clips from the movie here, along with a little synopsis of sorts. Across the Universe is a musical, composed entirely of songs by The Beatles. Even if you don't like The Beatles, though, you'll probably like this. The songs are often done entirely different than how The Beatles did them (this is similar to how songs in Moulin Rouge are often not like the originals at all). The movie takes place in the 60s. At times, the movie is VERY trippy. These two clips are a couple of my favorites from the movie.

Halo Wars
Mar 11, 2009 - 3:05 PM - by Draco2003
So, I bought Halo Wars the other day (Special Edition) so I figured I'd review it.

STORY: As the campaign mode starts, you are a lone character, Sgt. Forge, and you must gather the scattered Marines and make haste back to Alpha Base. As you make it back to Alpha Base, you discover that it has been over run with an alien race (Which, at this point, we apparently know are covenant), and you have to take it back. After accomplishing that goal, you have to then stop the bomb the Covenant have planted in the nearby ruins that you were there to initally investigate. Then, the Arbiter (not the same one from Halo 2/3 mind you. This one looks way more bad ass.) abducts Dr. Anders to try to get her to activate the Shield World, on orders given by the Propet of Regret. You may remember he epic fails when he encounters Master Chief in Halo 2. So, the Arbiter and Sgt. Forge... [Read More]

Slumdog Millionaire
Feb 12, 2009 - 6:48 PM - by Silverjinx18
This is a beautiful movie set in India. It tells the story of a boy growing up as a slum dog in India with his brother and the love of his life (who he met at a very young age). He eventually snags a spot on India's adaptation of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Again this is a beautiful movie depicting a very real and very raw India. Most movies I have seen set in this country have been very candy coated and light. I've never seen a movie quite like this one. So real.

Most of all this is an amazing love story. Hopefully getting across to it's audience that love is really all you need in life.

Yes Man
Jan 11, 2009 - 9:23 PM - by Willkillforfood
When I first heard about Yes Man, I just assumed it was another Jim Carrey comedy. It looked alright, but not overly enthralling. However, when I finally broke down and saw it this past Friday, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Jim Carrey plays a humdrum loan officer who skirts everyone after a failed relationship. While doing so, however, he misses out on a lot that life has to offer. Then, after attending a self-help seminar, he is transformed into a courageous and outrageous individual that just cannot say "no" to anything.

Yes, it's not a total aversion from Jim Carrey's traditional comedic role, but he definitely does a lot of serious acting in here. I'll admit it, it's funny and he does some of his silly and zany acts, but he really (in my mind) establishes himself as a pretty good serious actor in this. I know he's done some other... The Guild
Dec 31, 2008 - 1:26 AM - by Draco2003
Another series of free-ness that is available on XBOX Live.

This is actually a series, and is already on the second season. It follows the lives of people who are part of an online guild, but you don't see ANY game footage AT ALL! The main character is a girl whose screen name is "Codex", and it opens with a 'video diary' type thing where she is talking to her webcam, and she describes what happened in the previous episode, which is approximately equal to one day. The main perspective is of these individuals computer monitors, as they stare at them the whole time, but it does venture into other areas from time to time. One instance is when one character believes him and "Codex" are meant to be, so he rushes to her house at the first sign of trouble, which happens to be "Codex" on the phone with a therapist, trying to get her to be more... Horror Meets Comedy
Dec 31, 2008 - 1:06 AM - by Draco2003
This is actually a series... and it's on XBOX Live. And it's sponsored by the Airforce... which, if you see any of them, is totally unexpected.

So, in this series, each episode is independent, and seems to be possibly a trailer for a movie or just a short episode 'just because'.

The first episode is called "Janitor" and it is fucking trippy. I won't lie, but I jumped when I first seen it... not like, "OMGWTF!?!?!" out of my seat, but I did tense up. Without ruining it, because it is an EXTREMELY simple episode, I just recommend you watch it.

The next episode, I can't remember the title, but it is about a girl(pretty hot, I might add) whose parents have locked her in from the outside world. Well, I guess her parents die or something, but she meets someone who decides to hook her up with a male friend of hers. So, they meet,... [Read More]

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Oct 16, 2008 - 2:40 PM - by Willkillforfood
As with many people, the Indiana Jones series was a very memorable and pleasant part of my childhood. From the holy grail to the arc of the covenant, our favorite whip-brandishing protagonist robbed his way into our hearts. Well, does the latest incarnation of this famed series hold a candle? In short, kind of.

The story starts off with the typical 'foreign' bad guys (Russians this time), and Indy is back at the university where he works. The ruthless Russians lay waste to the guards of a giant warehouse which holds all kinds of goodies (there's even a reference to one of the later movies, if you pay attention.) Of course Indy holds the key to finding what they seek, so they must go after him.

Sounds good so far, right? Well, there's a big fat wrench thrown into the gears of this movie. A big fat wrench with a weird sounding name, Shia... [Read More]

Chrono Cross
Oct 06, 2008 - 5:57 PM - by Vault Dweller
*Originally posted on 1up.com, Monday, Feb. 25, 2008.*

I finished Chrono Cross today. Before anything else, I should say that I haven't touched New Game + yet, so I'm probably missing out on some of the plot points, but I feel like I've got the general idea.

To be blunt, I was disappointed. The ending sequence was...unsatisfying to say the least. I was hoping for a more solid plot explanation, a nice FMV, and perhaps a specific Chrono Trigger cameo. Instead, I was left with what amounted to digital blue-balls.

I'll admit, had unreasonably high expectations for Cross from the beginning, having absolutely loved its predecessor. I understood this, but I didn't expect to be disappointed on so many levels.

Beginning with the plot, I was constantly looking for Trigger tie-ins, but these really don't appear until about half-way... [Read More]

Cloverfield Review SPOILER ALERT!!!
Jan 18, 2008 - 1:31 AM - by Doofus_AW
Hello Zelaron!

Just got back from seeing Cloverfield and tought I would whip out a quick review.

In a word: Great. Not awesome but pretty damn good. Fast, exciting, and even funny at moments.

What I liked: The movie had some genuine jump in your seat moments, some eerie 911 imagery, and the monster after all the guessing and hype definitely kicked some ass (and knocked most of Manhattan on its ass as well.) The action was continual and kept you glued to the edge of your seat for the most part with only one or two suspense building lulls. The sound effects were stupendious, even when the monster was not in the scene the sound of its constant roaring in the distance and the thud of miltary ordnance (and a few falling buildings) were enough to keep your rapt attention.

What I did not like: There were a couple of scenes that I... [Read More]

Sin City
Apr 01, 2005 - 1:51 AM - by D3V
Wow just watched this movie, Very good.
(Got a job at AMC, got to watch the screening)

Ok this movie is based on a comic from a while back. From what I saw there are three story lines playing during the movie, which all take place in Sin City at corresponding times.

Some of the Key actors:
Bruce Willis
Rosario Dawson
Jessica Alba
Elijah Wood, the list goes on..

Tagline: Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything.

I mean this movie is really pretty sweet, just watch it, it's hard to explain.
