Question Zelaron Election?
Reply

Basic Layout

I, and Lots of other Zelaron members have been noticing the 'staff' members acting retarted lately, so maybe we should have some changes. Thats when it occured to me, lets have a Zelaron Election!

Chruser, WetWeird, and the 4 Admins basically have the final say over the Moderation spots, and who can be elected for the Sup Mod / Mod positions.
Basically, they say that they want ..(example members).. and all members here for longer than 35 days or with 250 or more posts can vote. If not, your vote will be discarded.

But a twist with the election, is the members can elect to have a regular member for the position of a current member, and after some voting it will work like a regular election, they will have a head to head vote.

(Example, MJ for Sup Mod over Soverign, After Mj wins the mini election, he would go up against Soverign as a candidate and the voting would determine who gets the position.)

There could even be an Apply thread where Any possible candidate could enter themselves into the actual election, therefourth Chruser, WW, and the Admins can filter it down to a list of about 10. There The members may choose which Forum they would like to moderate, or the Owners/Admins would choose, depends on the restrictions of this site.

There are more variables, but this is the basic outline, Improve if you like.

I like the idea, but thing is, this isn't a democracy. Zelaron is Chruser's site, and it needs to be run the way he wants it to be run. Him, and the admins have already made their decisions. It's a good idea, though.

Ditto to what mjordan2nd put. Check out my thread. I just put a few sentences in, because I'm about to go to work, but I'll elaborate if needed later.

There might actually be need for another new sup mod... ex-mania had made an official resignation thread.....

But i have the feeling that this thread was more or less made to try to oust me from my position -.-. But hey, whatever floats your boat!

Personally, I don't like the idea.

Example:

Johnny has 251 posts, and everyone likes him. He decides that he wants my position as a Sup Mod.
He wins, and I lose my job, which I have had for a year and a half because more people like him.

I see flaws left, right and center in this system. Maybe if you are unpleased with the current staff, you can come up with a way that the vast majority of the members can vote on who they want to be fired. But the whole "election" thing just wouldn't work, in my opinion. If we have a position open, and there is a member who is very good, and willing, then we might hire him.

I see your concerns, James, but really thats the way an election works. Even in reality, it's just a popularity contest. I also like your idea of allowing members to decide who should be fired, but we are prohibited to discuss who we want fired.

Hmm, well, in that case, maybe someone could work out a system with the admins in which they could discuss it, not just creating random threads about it. I don't know, just throwing ideas out on the table.

Without even reading anyone else's posts, I can already say that this is not a very good idea.

1.) You guys can say whatever you want, when ever you want, and you will always be heard. You don't need an election of some sort to do that.
2.) Moderator positions are filled from observation over time. It is more than obvious for the Admins to make decisions on who should get what positions. We see ALL.

It's just not necessary.

Won't work, but only because each election "cycle" someone's getting fired. Let's say Slaynish becomes Sup Mod for whatever reason, maybe some odd election promise or something.

1) Slaynish does a brilliant job of modding, which naturally pisses all the other members off because their posts are always getting deleted. Bye Slaynish.

2) Slaynish does absolutely nothing, thereby pissing the other Sup Mods and Admins off. Bye Slaynish.

3) Slaynish does a moderate job, pissing off BOTH the Admins/Mods ("We can find someone much better") and a bunch of regular, respected members ("He deleted my brilliant thread!"). Bye Slaynish.

If there's really that much of a problem with certain staff members, I trust that higher ranking (at least) staff members will do something about it. As for the whole "publicly electing new staff" motion...I'm against it. That's something I think should be handled purely by the staff.

Id est, it should be discussed amongst themselves, they should decide who would be good candidates for the positions, and they should privately contact that person to see if they're up to the job. I don't think it's any of our business.

I for one actually trust their decisions.

D3v

No longer does your opinion matter. Stop posting them, and all will be well.

Thing is, Chruser doesn't care if you dont like soverign, he doesnt care if half the board doesnt like soverign. He cares if soverign does his job. It doesnt fucking matter what you think. This is a hirearchy, not a democracy. Just sit down and agree with everything the superiors have to say, and shut the fuck up.

He doesn't have to sit down and shut the fuck up. He is more than welcome to express his views on the situation, as long as he does so under control and with plenty of proof to back it up. In this case, Sov apologized, and all should be well.

Thats what i meant, actually.

He just needs to know when enough is enough, and by saying that, i put my foot down.

He can express his views and opinions and feelings, just aslong as he doesnt try and ruin somebody else's day doing it.

As an example:

Calling staff members retarted... I wouldn't appreciate that. Expecially when he's getting so many other people anti-flag. (or so to speak..)

Another thing.

I dont appreciate you using me as an example, this goes to everyone. You all think that just because I'm 12 that i'm automaticly retarted, and stupid, and small brained. Just let it die, i'm not stupid anymore, that was in the past and cool off from any troubles I've caused everyone. Just stop worrying about me in the past, and start worrying about the problems from here on into the future.
