Image Analysis Software?

I'm going to have to take pictures and some sort of distance measurement (probably a laser range finder scanning in an arc) and determine the locations of objects relative to the camera. Examples of objects are traffic lines, construction cones, trees, etc. Does anybody know of (or can anyone find) a good set of tools that I could use to do this?
