I give you two weeks at most before you crack and return to Windows.

The beauty of Windows is that it's convenient. If I want to install the latest graphics drivers, I don't need to whip out the console and type away feverishly for five minutes, I just go to a site, click a couple of buttons, wait a few seconds for the drivers to download, and double-click.

I've tried four or five Linux distros, and the novelty of them soon wore off (particularly when I started using Windows 7).

If you do stick with Linux, then good luck with it.

Which version are you getting, by the way? I hope it's 9.04.

Atleast with 9.04 you will have somewhat of a less headache, it's still a huge difference.

The kid was only giving his reasons for liking Windows, in reply to my post about why I like Windows.

---

If you do enjoy Ubuntu, you might like to try other distros, too.

Ubuntu is the most widely used, and as such is quite easy to use and install. Fedora is also quite popular, and the same applies. Some of the others are much more complex and geared towards those with greater knowledge. I have a friend who uses Arch Linux which, having had a look at it, blows my mind away. Sure, it's something that you can learn if you have the time to sit down and use it, but as a first distro it's a big no-no - that's what Ubuntu and Fedora are for.

I assume you've installed it, so I'll ask: how'd it go, how's it running, and how are you finding it?

Still using Ubuntu, jamer?

I'm considering installing it in a virtual machine - if there's one thing that it will achieve, it's that I'll be able to learn about Unix better for my course, and piss about in the console.

I'm half tempted to install OS X into a virtual machine, too. I get so any people asking me about computer problems that it's only a matter of time before I get a Mac user asking for help. It also means I can have my Windows 7 desktop on one screen, Snow Leopard on the other, and laugh at the inferiority of OS X in comparison with Windows 7. It'd be nice to get a third screen so I can have Ubuntu there, too.
