Not really about terraforming a planet, however on-topic in my opinion. I have no doubt that these people would be opposed to terraforming: http://www.vhemt.org/

It's too bad they found out that bacteria mutates wildly in space.. and not to mention those cosmic rays that fry your brain.

It's a nice idea. Not at all feasible though. That would be an ultimate act of unselfishness, plus it's animal instinct to survive.

It's an extremist point of view. Yes, there are things we could be doing better to coexist with the planet, however simply killing ourselves isn't a solution, it's a cop-out.

This might be better addressed in another thread however.

That's true. Not even a realistic cop-out at that. I think limiting reproduction itself would be a HUGE load off the planets burden. Arn't the people of China, or one of those other overpopulated countrys, limited to only one or two children? That would be a good policy worldwide. Or even better but not as likely an in depth criterion to decide if you and your partner are even worthy of children.

we've already decided most people aren't worthy of children...they're babies are growing up to be JUST LIKE THEM....and there are a lot of leaches in america. And, yea in china you can only have 1 child per family...that's why they throw out their girls, because they want boys to carry the family name.
Your fucking stupid

There are regions where this is a valid concern, however as a worldwide policy, it's a bit premature for that. Once technology allows extraterresrial settlement, this will become less of an issue unless there are limitations put in place for unforseeable circumstances in that timeframe.

I kinda agree that a preliminary screening be done in regards to becoming a parent, but that would never happen in America as it goes squarely against cultural beliefs. I suppose we have the right to be stupid, and many people make use of that right.

I have to say I've thought about the whole "decrease human breeding" angle before, but not to the point of "extincting" ourselves. These tree-huggers don't seem to understand the simple fact that this planet will fuck itself eventually, with or without Homo Sapians. As much as we may like the planet, Earth's ecosystem is not "perfect." It just happens to be habitable.

Social science?

And Americans have the right to freedom as long as it doesn't impede on others' freedom... stupid people do do that by voting for stupid politicians, etc.
