The closer the rest of the world gets to Hong Kong's 1Gbps speeds, the better.

Thank the Gods that the government over here is talking about upgrading phone lines country wide to be able to take speeds up to 100Mbps.

How the hell is 1gbps even possible?

I can't even transfer shit from one place to another on my own computer that fast.

It's shared, I'm sure. The 160Mbps mentioned in this thread is shared, also.

It's Hong Kong. Does it need to have a reason?

I think the fastest speed data has even been transferred, was 13Tbps some months ago - a world record attempt by a company in Scotland, I think, sending information to Canada.

Someone explain to me how that's possible.

How can you trasfer data over a long distance like that when I can't even transfer data from one folder to another on my computer that fast?

I haven't a clue, but I was wrong.

The fastest is actually 26Tbps. The 14Tb record was broken on the 30th March this year.

Not all data originates nor ends up on non-volatile storage. Not all that data necessarily shared originator nor terminator.
