A moral calamity

Let's propose that you are the leader of an entire nation (such as the USA) and have been informed that several of your states/provinces/etc. are in danger of no longer being able to support and care for themselves and that if the problem is not dealt with, your country will be drained financially and many people will simply die from the problem. You are told you can wipe said states/provinces/etc. out in order to prevent this and to prevent its people from suffering needlessly or you can attempt to throw money at the problem, but with no real guarantee in a positive result of any sort. If you do decimate the peoples and wipe them out, you will be considered a monster with no value for human life, but in the long run your country will be more prosperous and will not have its finances or resources drained; on the flip-side if you attempt to find an alternative, death-free solution your country will eventually fall into shambles financially and your resources will become strained and eventually you will be viewed as the reason your country became a shithole all in the name of being a humanitarian.

What would you do?

What any political leader would do.
Find the RICHEST country around and BLAME IT ON THEM AND BOMB 'EM!

To best realistic though... this is a very hard decision to make... I might just have no choice but to exterminate those people.

Okay, okay, okay. Let's try this. I'll claim that the entire area is run by terrorists! That should work, right?

This is a rather easy one.

Just wipe out said states provinces, etc.

Regardless for what variables made said states and the such fall in such fucking horrible states, whether its' under their control or not.

Decisions should be made, solely on logically secure actions.

Morals should be excluded at all times when dealing with politics.

In my position, i would easily wipe them out. It's not about whether i think it's "wrong or right" to kill someone.

It's about maintaining major benefits for those in power.

Moral qualms are the reason most countries fall.

What do you think the goal of politics is, Kyeruu?

I would weigh out all possible solutions and focus on the ones with the most upside. Killing would not be an option, even in a fantasy world. Depending on the demographics of the state, location and all, they could be forced into a seceded state until their finances and other issues could be resolved. For the time being make them run as an independent entity so that their local governments can rely on the specific state for funding requirements, as well as logistical solutions.

I would also take into consideration where my budget for the rest of the country is headed, if there is spending that can be frozen or eliminated, then obviously that would be the first step taken to help restructure the damaged goods. A socialist outlook on this problem would most definitely solve it, and when the states would return to regular productivity and blossom back into their standings amongst the rest of the states, they will then again become profitable and the entire nation's power and wealth would boost significantly.

I would throw money at the issue, but selectively. I don't look at people as pawns, even if it were to be in a hypothetical power-weilding scenario.

Now, wait. Can't we just do what we've always done, and borrow money from China?

This doesn't seem like a very likely scenario. The whole purpose of Federal government is to take care of everyone...because we're all soooo helpless

Biological would be the best way to go about it, then you can 1. Easily control it(vaccines). 2. None of your subjects would suspect you. But that wouldn't ever happen, at least not for humanitarian reasons.
