How do you fade images into the background?

well you have to let him know how to make the transparent gradient, I know hot to go to color->trans, but not from pic->trans. That might take masking.

or you could just apply a gradient and change the opacity

Two forms of fading:

Edit > Fade

-or-

You can use a large eraser on 9-12% opacity and stroke back and forth from one end to the other.

400x100 pixel range = 45/65 pixel eraser
600x400 pixel range = 65/100 pixel eraser
Any larger and then use either a 100 or 200.
