When the cicadas cry

Higurashi no naku koro ni is a story about a boy who moves from a big city to a country town and that town's secrets. Every year, the town has a festival to the local god, and each year on the night of the festival someone dies and someone disappears without any clues; they call it the curse. The story follows Keichi as he gets tangled into these events.

The truth of the situation is revealed over several arcs as the citizens of the town play out the days leading up to the festival in slightly different ways (you come to find later that the whole town is stuck in some sort of time loop, and only the young priestess is fully aware of this). If you enjoy mysteries, creepy stuff, or people killing each other in different ways, you'll enjoy this show.

Plot progresses through:
25% Aggression
30% Socialization
40% Investigation
5% Introspection

Comedy:
50% Serious
50% Comedic

Episodic:
0% Episodic
100% Sequential

I watched some of this again tonight, and I have to ammend my comedy rating. It really is quite cute and funny up until the appointed day.

Nipah~~

Anyway the new season is supposed to contain one arc that is anime exclusive and not an adaptation from a visual novel, so that should prove to be quite entertaining.

The second season has finally started! It seems like it will be all-new content.

Just felt like pointing out that this series is still amazing. I think it's going to come to its conclusion in the next few episodes. The truth about the events of the past has come out; all that remains is to save the present.
