A First Book on Evolution
Reply

Could anyone recommend what to give a friend as a first book on evolution? Originally I was planning on giving The Selfish Gene. However, a few chapters in that book are good, but the rest of the book doesn't make much sense as it is a bit more in depth than you really want to go, and it sort of takes you off on tangents that you can really do without. So, any suggestions would be nice.

Start him off on The Universe in a Nutshell, then go into evolution. He has to transcend Earth first.

I have never read a book on evolution, I'd like to hear any suggestions aswell, the most facinating evolutionary education I have recieved was from Discovery and National Geographic series'.

She's more interested in evolution. I have no desire of imposing another book on her and making her not want to read either. I gave her The Selfish Gene for now and told her a few chapters to read.
