Are you interested in getting started with LightWave, one of the best 3D modeling/animation applications in the world? Just log onto irc.zelaron.com, channel #zelaron with mIRC, or click the found in the forum header.

You'll get help getting started with the program, and you'll have the chance to ask other "Lightwavers", including myself, for support and advice.

If you need a demo version of the program, simply send me a private message.

Oh yes, follow the link below for the official Newtek Lightwave gallery. It's worth looking at:

http://www.newtek.com/products/light...ery/index.html

---

So remember folks. 6 pm EST tonight is the time! If you can't make it, there will still likely be another class tomorrow with a bit more of planning beforehand.

First off, XSI sell their product(s) far cheaper than that. They even released a free version of Softimage. Houdini used to be extremely powerful, but due to its old age, it just doesn't work that well any longer. I consider LightWave to be one of hte most powerful applications as it has THE best modeling tools and the best rendering engine, although Maya has a live renderer. Did you know that a lot of the Maya projects (i.e. the Final Fantasy movie) used LightWave for modeling?

yes i infact did know that... but did you know they use maya for animation which really makes the whole thing come alive?

EDIT: oh ya btw on the free version of XSI... did you happen to know it's the free leanring version of it and many other packages have released similair things? for XSI it's called EXP for experience package... Maya it's called PLE, Houdini is called apprentice (and trust me it's still much fucking more powerful than lightwave, if you've ever used it that is) 3dsmax is called gmax i believe and there are many other similiar free packages. so ya, you get what you paid for and you paid 2k for lightwave so clearly you don't get as much as 17k

I agree, Maya makes things come to life, but I definately don't agree to the fact that Houdini is as powerful today as it once used to be. Look it up -- Both LW, Maya and 3DS are more powerful today. Acctually, I guess it depends on your definition of "power" in the first place.
