Actually, there are CGI, even Perl boards, but I wouldn't really recommend them. Like randuin said, PHP and MySQL are two good things to have access to.

Go look on TFO (they are one of our affiliates), I think there is a tutorial on getting Apache, PHP, and MySQL up and running together in the Geek Speek forum. If it's not there, go look on vBulletin.org, I know there is some sort of tut there, don't remember which forum though. BTW, you can check out some of the new stuff that will come our way in vB3 at vBulletin.com. They've had there forums running on vB3 for about a month and a half now.
