Phoenix has landed on mars!
Reply
Posted 2008-05-26, 03:03 AM
The Phoenix landed on Mars today. That is good news. Nasa's site lists four main goals for Phoenix:

--Determine whether Life ever arose on Mars

--Characterize the Climate of Mars

--Characterize the Geology of Mars

--Prepare for Human Exploration

Follow the mission here.

Here is one of the first images from Phoenix showing the Martian terrain and horizon.

More images here. Not the eerily "340" shaped UFO at the top. Also, note that they already have what appears to be a Starbuck's on Mars:

It's good to see those pics. Thanks for posting them!

I watched the landing on the Science channel last night. It was pretty intense, but I was dissappointed to hear I had to wait 2 hours to see pictures sent back.

Woot Woot!! The terrain isn't what I had expected. I expected it to be way more hilly, don't know why. It would be awesome if it got a snapshot of a skull.

They purposely landed it in a relatively boring spot hoping to avoid any mishaps.

I wonder if the ice on Mars is so frozen over that you can't slip on it.
