Question.

Ok, I have a question. When I was cooking ramen yesterday I put the eye on HI to boil the water. After removing the cooked ramen some drops of water fell over the side and skated around the Eye in little balls. They looked solid, but when they reached the edge of the eye they made the sizzling noise and vanished. I drop some more water on it and it done it again, anyone know why?

Are you refferring to the 'eye' in the middle of the burner that turns red when it's hot? .. If that's what you mean then I suppose what you're seeing is just water being vaporized, though I'm sortof confused to what it is you're asking.

I'm guessing he is wondering why the little droplets skate around the eye. I would think they have to release energy somehow...

What is happening is the water under the droplet is evaporating and pushing the water up. This gives the illusion that it just jumping around. Then, the amount of water gets low enough and the whole droplet just evaporates at the same time. We do it all the time with snow in the winter on our wood stove.

Your welcome. Still being in school gives me the ability to do most of that stuff.
