Thats really weird that it's not your character. If you log out in pvp gear it has a notice at the top that says "This character might of been caught in pvp gear".

I think what he means is that he picked a random character to look up instead of using his own, because he things it's possible that they're acquiring targets to hack.

It's a character that I know, but he doesn't play anymore.

As for my gear, I usually log out in my "town gear," which is picked to give a distinctive and pleasing appearance rather than for stats. Usually, if I'm going to be grouping, I equip my "raiding gear," then log out and back in for the armory.
