Say you get a brand new engine put in your vehicle. I'm assuming that erases the previous miles your vehicle had on it and you start over?

Yes and no. New engine for one legally needs to be done from the factory, and your odomoter is still going to say the same. Also, every other component besides the motor itself is going to still be old and worn out, for ex: the transmission, motor moutns, bushings, suspension, radiator/belts etc etc etc.

And Spector if you PM or tell me in here what kind of van it is, I can show you pretty easily in about 5-6 steps (provided you provide pics under the hood) of what to do and how to do it.

Hell, with 'Seafoam' a can you can pour about 1/3-1/2 the can in your gas tank alone and that'll do a bit of flushing, and with your motor completely cooled off you can pour it into the oil resivour, (where you put the oil in) and it'll clean the heads pretty decently, also when you run Seafoam you need to run your car for about a day and it's best to change your oil shortly afterwards because of all the gunk it releases off of the cylinder walls/etc.

Well, mine was done at the Chevy dealership and yeah my odometer reads 101k, but this particular engine only has about 40k on it. I'm wanting to sell my car soon and I don't know how to incorporate that to my advantage.

Just list in your autotrader or whatever, and include under the details that your miles are at 101k or whatever, and that their was a motor replaced, etc. I'm almost positive in every state, LEGALLY you cannot put the miles on the new engine as the miles on the car, you have put what the odomoter reads.

I have a truck that's been in my family for Eighteen years, They are saying that the odometer has already rolled over, it reads a little over 250k now, And my grampa has also shot it. It's a small Nissan.

Yep since the new engine does not have the wear of 1/4 million miles on it.

Actually, it will still have the quarter million miles on it, because all the other parts of the car will still have all the wear and tear on it. Unless he got a brand new engine, tranny, mounts, and all that other jibberish that makes cars work as good as they do, it will always have that mileage on it.
