Yes, it does have a lot to catch up. And Sony have put a plan on the table to have shipped another 11 million consoles by the end of their fiscal year.

And to be quite honest, I can seriously see them doing that, what with Killzone 2 and MGS4 coming out in Q1 '08, let alone the flood of games from September to Christmas.

EDIT: Our sources are about different things - the NPD Group figures are for hardware sales, whilst VGChartz is software sales, I think.

Oh I'd say they have plenty of consoles in the U.S. already. Quite a few sitting on store shelves =D.

Spin it any way you want - people don't want to buy them, people don't have to go out and buy a new one every three months because the Japanese know how to build gadgets, Sony have good a very good supply chain.

One could counter and say that there are lots of 360s sitting on shelves. Definitely the case where I am.

Personally, Gran Turismo 5 alone is going to be worth it, that and HD DVD's on my PS3...

All I can say is buying a stand-alone player at this point in time would be retarded for either case. I'd stick with DVDs until a standard is made or players that support both formats become readily available.
