Actually there is a such thing as a dumb question: a question that you already know the answer to, or should know the answer to. you can still ask the question, but you'll still get a lot of criticism for asking it.

and if you still say otherwise, then your grade school teacher(s) are/is wrong and are/is just trying to encourage people to ask questions.
