Hmmm, around mid April I took my mom's car to get some subway. I didn't have a drivers license at the time so I was trying to becareful not to speed. After getting my subway I start heading back and I approach the 2/3 mile straight bridge, its still sorta the end of winter so there arent any speed traps around due to the snow. But that day the bridge was perfectly dry. Past times I tried to go as fast as possible on the bridge nearing 85+ until I reached the curve which was not far away. Anyways this day, I went about 64 in the 35mph limit zone. And just as I'm entering the curve I see a fuking motorcycle cop hidden in the corner putting his little laser gun thingy in the holster and getting ready to take off after me. My heart starting fucking pounding like hell since I didn't have a driver's license and this is my mom's car. Anways I immidietly slow down and a rediculus 20 mph. And I don't see him. In any mirrors, just as I thought he didnt come after me I sorta calm down. Then BAM! all the sudden he pops up behind me,(it seems he was following me for a couple blocks in my blind spot) and turns on his lights. Yup, well I pull over and he writes me three tickets and my mom has to come to pick up the car since I didnt have a license, luckily I was about 5 blocks from my house so my mom just walked. First tickets was 110 dollars for no proof of insurance since I couldn't find the fucking insurance card. (Alaska law requires you to show proof of insurance right then and there or they write you a ticket, even if you have insurance.) That was no points for my DMV record. The second was the the "no valid operators license." That was 160 dollars and 2 points in my DMV record. Third is the speeding one, it was for going 64/35mph which was 360 dollars and 6! points in my record. I was so pissed since this all could've been prevented, but my dumb self had to speed. OH well. Anyways back to the story.
For months I was mad with myself because this would ruin my chances of getting driver's license until I was 18, I was gonna have to pay a shitload of money when I got insurance. And I would have 8 points in my DMV record. Therefor I was screwed. The court date was nearing and my mom had contacted her lawyer. When we got there he explained to us exactly what he was gonna do... First of all, the insurance ticket could've been reduced to half if we showed proof of insurance for that time. Also the cop made a mistake in writing the no valid operators license ticket. What happened is that the law changed so that when someone was caught with no license it would be a criminal offense instead of a minor offense or something like that. The cop wrote it as a minor offense so he decided to dismiss that ticket. After the lawyer had a long conversation with the cop, and since the cop liked me(since I was calm and not a jerk unlike most kids that get pulled over are) he decided he didnt wanna see my near future ruined. Sooooooooo, he decided he was gonna lower the speeding ticket from 29 over to 19 over the speed limit. This would make it 4 points in my record. THEN!!!! the judge decided since my mom so involved that she even contacted a lawyer for a speeding ticket (when most parents are not involved or dont care), that she would not put the ticket in my record, and would hold it over my head for two years, the deal was... If I got any movement violations(got pulled over) in the next two years that she would put the ticket back in my record and charge me the 350 dollars and the 4 points went in. I also had to write a 2000 word essay on the incident. And have to take a drivers course or something.
EDIT: I should add that after 12 points in your DMV record you get your license taken away.
So all I ended up paying was for the dumbest ticket of all. Wow, I cant believe I wrote all that,
so n ow I am free(sort of). Even though I spend more on the lawyer than the tickets itself, which was worth it since I now have a clean record again. Bleh.
