PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: I think in the next tourny, we should have it game specific
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: like
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: Mario Bros. 1 Mario
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: Super mario world mario
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: so there's no confusion as to what they can use
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: and you can fight the same character against itself from a different game
domino155: Heh, not a bad idea
domino155: i like that
domino155: too broad this way
domino155: too uneven in the matches
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: it would mainly get it fair
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: yeah
domino155: having everything at their disposal is horseshit
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: X gets to choose from everything he had in all his games
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: that pretty much makes him unbeatable
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: he never had access to them all in a single game
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: so why should he in this tourny?
domino155: right, i agree
PiMPiNReDHaTMaN: pass it on to raziel
domino155: you should bring it up in that forum
domino155: make a post about it

Pidgeon-holing a character like that make things too damed linear, and doesn't afford any basis for creative argument. If you pick one specific version of a character, then all someone has to do is say "Mario can do this this and this, Link can do this, this and this. By comparing their abilities, Link wins. The end." By allowing a character to have access to all of his abilities, it makes people think more creatively without restraining their thought-processes.

It also gives some characters way more power than they normally would have, and gives them a very unfair advantage.

How does it give them an unfair advantage? If everyone has access to their abilities, why would it be unfair?

Case in point, X vs Rikimaru. What difference does it make if X has access to 9 special weapons or 40 special weapons? Most of them are duplicates, and fucntion in the exact same fashion anyway. Would it have been any easier for Rikimaru to win if X only had acces to his X2 abilities? Would the match have been any different?

Of course it would, X never had access to ALL of the weapons from ALL his games in any single game. He shouldn't have access to them all in the tournament either.

With just weapons from one game, there could be weaknesses when using them all, If he has access to them all, he could just pick and choose the best ones so that they cover each others weaknesses.

First, KA, I'm not entirely sure why you've brought this up in the first place. You barely participate in these battles anyway.

Second, I still disagree with you. X's access to all of his abilities gives him no more of an advantage than if he had only one set of abilities. He still has plenty of weaknesses, it's just that no one has bothered to try and figure them out.

Third, if we restrict character abilities, that severely limits how far a discussion can go. If everyone knows absolutely everything that a character can do, right from the get-go, all the match boils down to is a comparison of power.

"In Column A we have Mario from Mario Bros. 3. He can use fireballs, the Tanooki, Hammer Bros. and Frog suits, he can jump and he can fly. In Column B, we have Link from A Link to the past. He can use the Master Sword, Mirror Shield, Cane of Byrna, Ether, Bombos, Quake, Hookshot, Magic Cape, and a whole bunch of other shit. Well, by comparing their abilities, Link wins. Mario can't punch, kick or really evade Link's attacks because he couldn't do that stuff in Mario Bros. 3."

These battles determine which characters would win in a battle, not who has the stronger abilities. If you limit the character's abilities like that, all you're doing is a side by side comparison. If we do that, then why the hell don't we just revert to the vote system we used originally?

Okay, in X vs. Rikimaru case, it is mainly because no one actually defends for Rikimaru. I didn't list all the weapons X has, in fact, I just picked several of them from X6, and used the Shadow Armor from X6.
