HT: Thanks for agreeing to this interview.
AG: Big up de HIGH TIMES massiv a'ight. Me name be Ali G and me represent de West Staines Massiv.
HT: The introduction to
Da Ali G Show features a sequence in which buds that you hold in your hand magically roll into a spliff. Is marijuana a big part of your lifestyle?
AG: Dat aint magic -- me can role up two spliffs using one hand -- dat iz why I iz known as bein double jointed.
From de moment me was born de chronic has been at de centre of everytin me do -- when me mum squeezed me out of her punani me woz cryin so much dat she let me have a drag on her joint. Den three years later me first word woz "reefer".
HT: Why have you chosen to post for the cover of High Times?
AG: Coz you iz de only mag dat pay in weed.
HT: Are you an advocate for marijuana legalization?
AG: Wot? Me didn't realize it woz illegal. Me iz plannin to make me hood of Staines de new Amsterdam -- hope-fully wiv de prosies and all. Me iz got me eyes on de McDonalds in de High Street which me iz hopin to convert into a classy establishment where u can get mashed and noshed for ten pounds.
HT: Describe the pot scene in the UK.
AG: In de last 10 years fanks mainly to da invention of da aeroplane and super strength connies (dat don't split when dey iz swallowed) getting quality puff in de UK has never been easier. Hunfortunatly dere iz some evil people in de UK who i tryin to sell fings dat aint drugs. Only last year me mate Ricky C had to go to hospital after smokin wot turned out to be owl shit dat he had bought off some geeza on a trip to London Zoo.
HT: How do you avoid buying fake pot?
AG: Me just smell it -- if it remind me off pizza den its probly oregano. 'avin said dat, Warren at Staines Pizza Hut will hactually put a sprinklin of skunk on your pizza for an hextra ten pounds. De real problem comez when people try to sell you dangleberries -- even tho deze bitz of dried shite from a dogs arse, dey is hactually quite hard to tell from genuine cannabis resin. Me don't worry too much about dis tho, coz dangleberries is hactually a good smoke.
HT: What is your favorite strain?
AG: Its gotta be Somali Lakbay Diva 1997 -- its grown in a small part off Jamaica called Somalia. It has a fruity taste and a beautiful bouquet -- you can hardly taste dat it's been half way around de world up someones arse.
