Got a 360 this weekend

I was all excited when I saw they lowered the prices to $280 until I realized that was just the Core unit and it didn't come with a hard drive. Sneaky bastards. So, I shelled out the $350 for a Premium. Got Def Jam: Icon (pretty sucky gameplay, if you ask me), Madden '07, and Ghost Recon. Haven't played Ghost Recon yet, probably will tonight. But, what are some good, popular games for the 360? Yeah yeah Halo 2 and everything but I haven't got into that and there's no point starting now. I'm just gonna wait for Halo 3.

How does Xbox live work? Give me a brief explanation if someone would, please. You just plug the ethernet cord from the Xbox to, in my case, my laptop, right? Think it will work on a AT&T highspeed laptop card?

By the way, I'm anxious for Halo 3 to come out so I can own you fools.

I'm pretty sure you have to have the ethernet cable running from your internet source, such as a router. You can get a wireless adaptor for your xbox, though, and use the same wireless that your laptop is using.

Well, it's one of these AT&T cards. As far as I know, this isn't it's own wireless network, it just connects to AT&T's network. Would I have to get a router?

Damnit.. I might as well just set up my own wireless network at my apartment. How much do you think that would cost?

Setting up a wireless network costs like 60 bucks if you've got regular broadband internet. I honestly don't know what you should do in your case. Maybe somehow use your computer as a router to your xbox, like you said in your first post, but I don't think that would work.

No clue about that shit. Why don't you have a normal goddamn external broadband modem? That reminds me of 56k.

I've heard that someone actually makes a router that works with Verizon and Sprint connection cards, which would be your best choice, if you absolutely can't get cable or DSL. You can also try to use internet connection sharing, but it doesn't work very well, in my experience. DNS doesn't forward properly and stuff. You'll have to manually setup the XBOX's IP settings. The ICS wizard should give your laptop the address 192.168.0.1 (WTF?), so you'll need to set the XBOX to
IP: 192.168.0.100
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS1: 209.120.229.62 (that's Zelaron)
DNS2: 192.168.0.1 (if Zelaron is down, it's possible your DNS forwarding will be working ATM...)

Yeah I researched quite a bit yesterday online and I'm gonna enter all the information manually. Now, those numbers aren't going to be the exact same, correct? I'll have to look up the diagnostics for the wireless connection to AT&T and enter in those numbers it gives me. Right..?

Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to this shit.

Those are the exact numbers to enter on your XBOX after you've used the Internet Connection Sharing wizard on your laptop. You also need to be sure to properly setup the internet sharing. Be sure that the source is the air card and that you are sharing with the ethernet adapter.

When you're done, hit [Windows]+R to bring up the run box, enter "cmd" to bring up the command window, and type "ipconfig /all" to confirm that your IP address on the ethernet adapter is set to 192.168.0.1 (the numbers on the XBOX will be slightly different if it isn't).

That's the system I wanna get next. Halo 3, GTA IV, and Assassin's Creed are pretty much the only games I wanna get (that and the slightly "old" Dead Rising). Too bad MGS4 won't be on the 360.
