how do you....

i use RPG maker XP and i was wondering how to make a cutscene i want it so that when my character gets to a specific spot he freezes there and some other guy comes up and starts talking to him or my character goes and hides behind a tree and overhears some1 talking. plz help thx

Because you're using RMXP, you'll need to play with switches.

Basically:

Hero steps onto an event. That event stops him from moving, and turns on a switch. Meanwhile there's a second event just out of site (parallel process) that uses a conditional branch to check if the switch is on. If it IS then that event comes to action.

If you can work out the code from that, then well done. I don't have the time to do it right now, and the computer I'm on only has RM2K3. If someone hasn't answered by the time I get on RMXP, then I'll post the code for each event.

Make an event triggered by your hero touching it, then go to the second page of events and find 'move event'. That should be what you are looking
for. As to another character, make n event where you want the other character appear, leave it blank, and use the event that you want your character to be on when he stops. Now use the move event and at the top select instead of 'Player', select the event where you want the other guy to appear. Press the button on the move event page 'Change Graphic'. Now select in which directions you want the other char to move, and if you want messages, it's the first button on the first page. Really you could just have one parallel proccess on the screen if the sequence happens as soon as you enter the map, but the way I described before is the most easy.

ok i have another problem though iill make it so that my charcter will move behind a barrel to hide(move event) then you hear the people talking but for there exit i made a door in which you need a password. how do i make it so that they can exit the door but when my player has to go in the door it asks for the password

ok i looked at that but it only tells you how to make the door with a code but i want it so that in my cutscene somebody can go through it and then when its back to gameplay i have to go through it but i have to put in the key. how do i do that?

Switches again, then.

I like Conditional branches, but BC seems to prefer new pages. Personal choice, really.

---

Cutscene - Hero has to step on an event to set it off first. So on that event have a second switch turned on.

Then, in front of your door, have an event that is a conditional branch:

If Switch [0001] ON
<>
Else
<> Input Number yada yada yada

Then once the cutscene is over, have the switch turned off (stick it at the end of the event that controls the whole cutscene).
