Linux section?
Reply
Posted 2004-05-10, 06:04 PM
I think a Linux section would be a great idea for Zelaron. Albeit it being a gaming forum, and most games work on Windows, we do have a wide array of members; some of whom might like to use Linux. It would be like any other section of Zelaron, ideas are simply passed freely around, and questions pertaining to Linux are asked freely as well.

If you are going to vote no, consider this: Although you might not want to run a Linux system, I'm sure there are some people who might like to run Linux. It would do Zelaron absolutely no harm having a new section, and it might bring some extra activity .

If you have never considered Linux, I strongly reccomend you give it a try.

I agree. I made a thread involving Linux and I was insulted. Some people like to try new things and other people go and ruin it for them.

If there was a 'Linux' forum, people like me could get all the help they need without the bull shit of people taking the thread off-topic. It can be really useful.

I wll add more later.

Wouldn't be very active. If you need to talk about Linux, make a thread, or go to a forum about it.

See, I already tried a thread, and the first three replies(not including mine) insulted me.

I am already a member of too many forums to join another.

Why not have Linux/Windows forum for all pc stuff.

How many people are going to randomly venture out into a Linux forum? If it is closer to home (Zelaron), where people normally visit, it will give them the chance to read a bit about it, and perhaps try it out.

Maybe we could make a small sub forum in programming. Since linux IS open source, modifications for the code couild be posted there?

I just really don't see why there should be a section... really if you are someone who wants/needs linux info should find a really good resource. I think a forum full of D2 players and such isn't the right place

We have a general media forum, an art forum, and a programming forum. D2 players might like to try Linux, but they have to have a certain level of exposure to it first. Bringing a Linux forum here might convince some people to get Linux.

Linux doesn't need a whole forum to itself.

As a loyal linux user, I'd have to second that.

It's a fucking gaming forum, go to futuremark, or [H]ard or something if you're gonna talk about serious computer stuff. Plus, windows supports many more games, and it'd make much more sense to talk about windows in a gaming community.

I think if this idea did go forward, we should go with Sov's idea. A sub forum would be good, because they are made just for that specific topic, and not really large enough to get in that many users, just my opinion.
