Strategy Guides

What do you guys think of strategy guides? I personally think they are ok for when you're really stuck and have absolutely no idea what's going on, but if you use one for the whole game then thats pretty lame.

Pretty much, the rule of thumb for me, if I'm stuck for more than an hour I check a guide.

Same here. Plus, I enjoy buying strategy guides for the non-strategy content. If it's got tons of cool extra shit, I'll buy it just to read it for fun. Example: the EarthBound strategy guide is the greatest guide in existence. 50% of the books content is extra crap. Stuff like fake advertisements and newspaper clippings. Just plain awesome.

I don't buy guides, but if I get stuck, I'll use www.gamefaqs.com

I don't use them unless I'm really really stuck or until the end of the game to find the secret shit (i.e. FF10 celestial weapons: go to these coordinates, walk in the water, press the x button until you find an invisible chest).

I dont buy them i use gamefaqs.com for stuff i missed/didnt do and only after i beat the game once.

If I buy a strat guide, I almost never use the walkthrough; I have to be really stuck to do that. I use them to fill in unknown info like statistics on weapons and such, or other useful information like what items you need to add what effects to weapons and armor in FFX or how keywords effect the generated area in .hack.

They are essential in today's games. I remember being stuck in the second city on GTA3, Couldn't get anywhere, was lost/stumped. Finally I went to EB and bought the guide for like 12 bucks, it was sweet to get me out of that slump. I usually only use it if i'm really stuck, like after 3 days of trying.

Well, if you're a trully stuck you usually stop playing... gta3 strat guide suxs, you can find everything on there at gtawarehouse.com or something... forgot url...

i use them all the time because i like to beat the game getting everything like not missing any of the secret things so i use the strategy guide, lol
