Subject: Server Issues
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, folks, here's the deal. Iv'e got two gaming server companies I'm delaing
with right now. One is flexible, one is not.Irregardless, I want you all to know
that using these services can be a wolf in sheeps clothing. Yes,they'll be high
end systems with major bandwidth. But,the trade off is lack of control.Using
their servers makes changing .ini file a bitch.About all that we will have
control over is changing the maps through the game's server admin console. What
does this mean? Well, once teams agree on team sizes for the match there would be
no changing it.It wouild be impossible to get a new .ini file uploaded. So,if a
team had a problem, the match would have to be canceled. I'm not sure if HomeLAN
is going to go for shutting down the server regularly to change the .ini file.
The other company seems pretty flexible.
Now,here's the other alternative.Yes, TWL requires a T1 server for
matches. But,realistically, I have no way of knowing what type of line all the
servers are using (well,I do,but its a hassle). So,I can get the ladders
unlocked, matches get scheduled, etc.Squads provide there own servers. But,and this
is a big BUT,a ping and lag check would have to be done and both teams would
have to agree on the server's stability.Once it was agreed, there would be no
protests or complaints of laggy servers accepted.
Doing it this way would allow more control over the server, which would allow
more flexability at match time.
Let me know what your thoughts are.
Psi
BTW-sorry, if your on both ladders you may get this twice.
