Post Tsunami in Asia
Reply

In case you nerds are so kept up in your Forum world of Zelaron, and haven't gotten the news about the Tsunami from your computer, or family. Well, here it is. http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/

Basically a giant ass wave demolished parts around Asia. The death toll is no around 140,000 . And the sad part is, nobody around the states seems to give a shit. Pathetic.

But is is good to hear that international (businesses?) have pitched in and the relief effort is starting to move along, their $ amount is up to 2 Billion. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapc...ake/index.html

I wouldn't say that. The United States has donated 350-million dollars to help countries that suffered from the tsunami, and are also sending supplies along with naval ships to help alleviate the situation.

Also, plenty of American citizens have donated money. Bill Gates and Michael Dell have both donated 3 million dollars. Plenty of people care.

Oh my bad. last I heard the US only gave 35 Mil. Thats great to hear that people are contributing towards the good cause. Though, it is somewhat in vein, theres so many dead people and demolished cities, it's going to be a long time of hell.

It is currently 35 million in donations from the government and it only got that high because Bush got pressured into it. Originally he wasn't giving anything and when people started to notice, he decided to give $15 million which is nothing for aid. He bumped that up to $20 million and eventually $35 million when people noticed how stingy he was.

You say he's stingy like it's his money. I'm sure congress had something to do with it.

A Google search confirmed mjordan's post of $350 million.

Edit: It seems I was wrong about the starting amount of $15 million... it was only 4 million. Here is the article about the $350mil amount.

The band Linkin Park donated $100,000 from their own pockets. I would say thats pretty generous of them.

And you know why he bumped up his donation???

Because we (British public) donated over 45 million.

That was in about 2 days...

I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few Americans were embarrassed.

On CNN it said the earthquake had the force of 9.5 thousand atomic bombs. I wouldn't doubt its the cause of so much warm weather where i am. It was like 50 in upstate NY yesterday.

It hit 60 here in Indiana. It's weird. Saturday: 15 inches of snow, the high was 6. Next Saturday: 60.

I heard somewhere that if there was another earthquake the tsunami would hit America's west coast. Wouldn't that suck.

The Europeans on the first couple of days were complaining that we gave too little when they gave only 4 million dollars. What I think they need right now is a lot of people to work and build houses/jobs and get the community and the lives of the people back on their feet.

Yea, it was a 9.0 on the rictor scale(and yesI spelt that wrong, right). Scientist determined day was shortened a fraction of a second, the whole Earth shook and that the Tatonic plates(spelt wrong again, I dont give a shit) moved as much as 98 feet which caused Islands to move noticably.

So many died who deserved to live. I couldn't believe it happened at first, its something you would see in a movie, not IRL. Some scientist are using data collected from/before the quake to help predict future mega quakes like this. So in the end, its not all bad, it can help prevent future mass death like this .

But think about it, so many lives could have been saved when it hit the first country and somehow they contacted the other countries to back away from the shore. In 2 hours you could travel a lot, even on foot.
