Range Hero

What would be a good range hero build?
I don't know much about the classes and i don't even have the game yet. I'm thinking of getting it over christmas break, so i might as well think of it now.
So yeah what would be a good range hero and a race for it?

It depends on what you mean by range. If you're talking about bow/gun, it'd be hunter. If you're talking about magic, probably mage. I'd assume you want to join us in the guild, so that'd be horde.

As far as hunter goes, I'd probably choose tauren over orc and troll. The reason I'd take tauren is because 5% hp boost is nifty, as well as war stomp can save you sometimes if you're in a pickle, not to mention +10 nature resistance doesn't hurt either. Orcs do have +5% pet damage and 25% stun resistance which could be nifty, so I'd put them at a second.

If you're going mage it's between troll and undead. If I had to choose between these I'd probably go with undead. Undead has a 20 second immunity to fear with a 1.5 minute cooldown, +10 shadow resistance, and 4x breath which can be nifty. Trolls get 25% spell casting increase for 20 seconds with a 2 minute cooldown, 5% damage bonus to beasts, and that's about it. The 25% isn't going to be all that noticeable, which is why I'd go with undead.

That's just my opinion, but it's ultimately up to you. As far as the builds go, I can't help you there, but I'd check http://wowvault.ign.com/ because there is a bunch of talent templates on there.
So this baby seal walks into a club.

So would you say a tauren hunter using a bow or a gun would be better than any other race? I'm not sure how the stats of a character influence the attack speed or accuracy of the attack. But i don't want to big this big ass ugly thing with a bow or a gun shooting 1 bullet every 30 seconds... And then missing...

I didn't see any statistics about bow vs. gun on that site, so do you know anything regarding damage and speed?

Also, do you know how the hunters are soloing? I know they have their pet to take some hits, but i don't know anything about gameplay and if the monsters will attack the thing that is doing the most damage...

Another thing i didn't see on the site was which class is best suited for a hunter in the horde, i guess it just depends on the player?

Thanks for the trouble.

I don't know what you mean by "Hero," since they haven't added Hero classes yet, but those will probably be based on race/class past level 60.

I played a hunter to 20 before open beta ended, here's my take.

Very good solo after level 10, when you get a pet with growl. Before that... not so good. But 10 is nothing, 8 hours max, even for a noob.

Bows shoot faster than guns, but they do the same general damage per second.

Your pet will hold the aggro if you send it in first, and it uses growl; as long as you don't spam every ability you have.

All in all better than a mage, in my opinion.

I like Warlock > Hunter for Solo ranged/casting classes. The Voidwalker is so incredibly good at its job of holding aggro, it's great. Even if it's getting owned horribly, you can use an ability to sacrifice it and gain temporary invulnerability for 30 seconds (or 300-odd damage, whichever comes first), so you have plenty of time to get away or finish the mob yourself. Soul Shards power your crafting of Healthstones and Soulstones for resurrection just in case you get murdered.

My only complaint about Warlocks so far is that most of your spells are DoT, which slow you down, but are mana efficient. Also, the Hunter is obviously better at melee combat as well. I have yet to receive any AoE spells, so I can't really say anything.

As far as range goes, it's pretty much open to any class. I played a mage in OB to level 21 and I loved it. You can deal a large ammount of damage within the first few seconds of combat, and if that doesn't kill the enemy, it's too hard for you. Shaman... Well, they seemed to be concentrated on melee instead of range, yet they still have quite a few ranged spells. Priest, couldn't say, never played one. Hunter, I heard their pets are quite useless at end game. Warlock, as Vollstrecker pointed out, DoT, but I really like DoTs because you can take your time, cool your nerves, and that usually saves you from dying unnessesarily.
