Old XBox Problems?
Reply

Ever get this message?

You Xbox can't recognize this disc. Make sure it's an Xbox game, DVD movie, or audio CD. Also check to see if the disc is dirty or damaged. Remove the disc to continue.

I literally get that message at least 10 times before I can play any Xbox game. I used to think it was because I had the console in my basement during the winter, which literally got to about 45-50 degrees. I figured it just needed to heat up. But now I have it in my bedroom and it still does it, even though I chill in here at a comfortable room temperature of 70 degrees.

A few of my other friends are having the same problem, and we've come to the conclusion that it is just old. I got mine literally within the week it came out, as did most of my friends that are having the problem.

Anyone else run into this crap, or know what I should do?

Yeah I got mine for the xmas right after it came out.... it does it once and while. I just cleaned the lens and it works fine for like a year depending on how much I use it.

How do I clean the lens? Can I just use an air spray can or something to get all the dust and shit out of it?

Oh yeah you post and get 50 million responses, but i post and get, "Shouldn't be playing burnt games!"

Ehh, what can I do? I am having the same problem, but cleaning my lens did absolutely nothing. The first game I couldn't play was Project Gotham Racing(1) and it didn't really bother me, because I still had Halo. When that didn't play I was like "Oh Hay-ll nah, Bitch you best be readin' my discs!" But it just did the same thing. Then I cleaned the eye and it worked on only one game, but that game was jumpy(Morrowind). Then, it didn't work again so I tried to clean the eye, but couldn't find the proper tools again(DAMN YOU BLASTED INCORRECT TOOLS THAT I USED THE FIRST TIME) and anyways, now it says, "Your XBOX video game system has been violated and needs to be seriously repaired. Rush it to the nearest authorized repair service center and get5 it fixed," or something to that effect. It doesn't even start up normally, the second I turn it on, it shows that message. I NEED SO MUCH HELP! PLEASE!

P.S. I wasn't playing burnt games, and I doubt any of you are, so who wants to sue XBOX? Come on, anyone? Come on! We have a 1 in a 999,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00 0,000 chance to win. WHO'S WITH ME? God you guys are lame! JK!

Has anyone tried calling the makers? If it's like the PS2 they might fix it for free.

Happens to mine too. Seems like a pretty common problem. Probably has something to do with a shitty DRE, just like the PS2's.

There are guides about it for PS2 on gamefaqs. Nothing about Xbox having this problem.

I heard that it has something to do with the fact that the disc drive is made by 3 defferent people! there is a different company's drive in each XBOX! The most problematic are Panasonic, followed by toshiba I think, and lastly some other great company which has very very very very very few reports of errors. And if you tell them, and you tried to take it apart and fixs it, they just tell you you shouldn't have EVER taken it apart! I even OFFERED TO PAY for the reparations, and they just said no. If you haven't taken it apart yet then there may still be hope. Keep us "posted"! HA get it, posted? POSTED? HAHAHA
