Alright, wish me luck. I'm going to get all four of my wisdom teeth extracted as soon as I leave work. I can't tell you how un-psyched I am to be doing this...

Go, go, go, go!

Just think, for that little bit of time in the chair, so many years of no pain.

It does not hurt too much(at least in my case), unless you don't take your pain medication. Your cheeks will be soooo fucking swollen, it will look like you have golf balls stuck in your cheeks.

I remember one time I went to the dentist. My lip got numb and I kept biting on it as hard as I can. Then it turned white and hurt like a mofo after the numb was gone .

Do you get them back, if so I think you should take pictures of them and put them on like the wisdom teeth thread or something. And then everyone could put pictures of their wisdom teeth on here.

There is no set amount of pain you will feel. For everyone it is different. I've heard horror stories, and I've also witnessed first hand nothing of the sort. I had mine out about 9 months ago, and I was literally eating pizza in two days. I had no swelling, no real pain. Then again, I only had two taken out, and they were only partially impacted.

Oh, and I wasn't numbed, I was knocked the fuck out! That is definitely the way to go, anesthesiology.

Same for me. The doc was like "alright I'm puttin the IV in now... *out* good stuff. Woke up 20 minutes later, went home, took a nap, changed my gauze afterwards, and that was the only time my mouth bled.
So this baby seal walks into a club.

Well, here's how I'm feeling for anyone that is curious.

1) My cheeks are barely swollen. They're only slightly sensitive right back where the teeth used to be.

2) I'm not bleeding profusely. Yeah, I'm spitting up blood, but that began to taper off about 8 hours after the surgery.

3) I am starting to get really fucking sick of pudding.

Beyond that, it's actually not so bad. And if I can suggest anything to people getting them out in the future, find an oral surgeon and let him knock you the fuck out. Don't have your dentist do it. They'll use a local anasthetic and you'll be awake for the entire thing. In all honesty I can remember two things before and after I went down.

1) I remember the surgeon asking me if I was in a band and I said something to the effect of "Yeah, I'm in Led Zepplin. I'm Jimmy Page."

2) I remember having the hiccups on the way back to my parents house.

Beyond that, I have no memory of it, and therefore, no innate fear of having to have something like this done again.

So, if you're going to get it done, take my advice. Pay the difference it will cost to go to an oral surgeon, and forget about having your dentist do it. I'm in nearly no pain, but everyone I know that has gone to a dentist to have it done was in excruciating misery. It's worth the extra money.

When I had mine removed, the doctor prescribed a pill. I went to the pharmacy, and they filled my prescription -- 1 pill. I took it 10 minutes before I got to his office, and when we got there, I couldn't make it up the three steps to the front door. I had to crawl inside. After that, I remember nothing.

However, my wisdom teeth were very deep inside my gums. They were only removed because I was getting braces a few months after that, and there would have been complications if they weren't removed. Anyhow, I didn't eat anything for three days.

I was numb for 31 hours after the surgery. Because of this, I couldn't take my pain killers. I would put the pill on my tongue and pour water on it with no success. Finally, around 5 p.m. the next following day, I could actually move my tongue enough to swallow the little pill. I never experienced pain unless I tried to open my mouth. Three days after surgery, I had some jello. I had more jello that night.

I remember like... two days after that, I was at school, and they were serving the good pizza. I firmly believe that it was Red Baron single serving deep dish, and it was the best. I knew I couldn't eat it, but I got one anyhow. I took a bite of it, my mouth told my brain, "BAD!" and I started bleeding again. *sigh*

My advice to people having their wisdom teeth removed:
Wait till you can see them. Don't have them taken out with half an inch of gum on top. You will regret it.

Well, I got all four taken out, and only one of them was visible. Did you go to a dentist for it or an oral surgeon?

It was an oral surgeon. How close to the surface were your other teeth?

(I couldn't even feel mine.)
